How Do You Protect Your Eyes While Riding Your Motorcycle?

Motorcycle glasses and goggles are more than just a fashion accessory. They are essential for safe riding and keeping your eyes healthy while on the open road. Not only is protective eyewear important to limit exposure to the sun, but it’s also essential for keeping debris from getting into your eyes, obstructing vision, and preventing an accident.A recent national survey found that one in five American adults has experienced an eye injury while participating in outdoor sports or activities, such as motorcycling.

Motorcycle eyewear protects eyes from the sun, dust, dirt, and insects. They are essential for comfort, safety, and performance. Unfortunately, some riders choose not to wear protective eyewear and face the negative consequences of not doing so.

Most states require bikers to wear eye protection at all times while riding their motorcycle. However, there is no safety rating that is currently regulated. The only state that requires bikers to wear eyewear that is of a satisfactory rating is in New York. That leaves it up to you to choose the best eyewear available for your protection. Here are some other ways to protect your eyes while on your motorcycle.

A Windshield: A windshield provides the most coverage and overall safety. It cuts glare and may also protect against the sun, but the level of protection is not always efficient and therefore it is recommended that you use additional safety measures.

A Full-Face Shield Helmet: Wearing a motorcycle helmet has consistently been shown to reduce crash-related injuries and death so you should always wear a helmet when riding.

RX Motorcycle Glasses or Riding Glasses: Motorcycle eyewear can also be customized for riders who also need/require Prescription Motorcycle Glasses. Being able to clearly easily see your bike’s instrument panel is important, especially while focusing your attention on your surroundings. Some riders over the age of 40 require prescription motorcycle glasses or bifocals. This prescription eyewear can allow them to see the instrument panel clearly, thus being a much safer driver. If you wear contacts, you will especially have to take precautions to wear protective eyewear. Not only will it protect your eyes from the dust and debris but will also protect against dry eye.

Caring for your eyes is crucial and must not be overlooked. In addition, maintaining your eyewear improves overall visibility and safety by keeping your vision clear of dirt and debris.
