HOW LONG THE FLU IS CONTAGIOUS

Flu is the most common word for Influenza, it is the most contagious respiratory illness caused by the A or B viruses. The virus attacks mostly in spring and winter, it spreads across and attacks the upper and lower respiratory tracts,sometimes flu may cause mild to severe illness which may lead to death so it is necessary to treat flu at an early stage as it is difficult for people to asses for how long the flu is contagious.

People infected with flu canspread virus to othersup to six feet away, the flu viruses spreads mainly by tiny droplets made when people with flu sneezes, cough or talk as these droplet may land into the mouth, nose or hands of people who are nearby, a person may also catch flu by touching the surface which is already infected with flu viruses and then touching their own mouth and nose or possibly their eyes.

How long the flu is contagious

The period of contagiousness is quite complicated as the time from when a person is exposed and infected towhen symptoms begin is about 2 days but can rangefrom about 1 to 4 days, one may also spread flu to someone before knowing of its sickness as well while being sick.

People with flu are most contagious in the first 3days after their illness begins some healthy adults may infect before they understand that they are caught by virus.

Generally  for how long  the flu is contagious depends on the longevity of exposure a flu remains contagious for 7  and it begins from day one before learning any ofthe symptoms, one may remain highly contagious for five to seven days after you start feeling sick. Kids and people may remain infected unless all the symptoms of flu fades away.

How long the flu is contagious for the young children and people with immunesystem is difficult to determine as people with weak immune system can catch the virus easily and the longevity of contagiousness may last longer.

A person who is contagious with flu virus must follow below mentioned tips to avoid illness and spreading infection.

  • Maintain hand hygiene and keep your surroundings neat and clean to limit the spread of flu
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Eat healthy food and include soup in your diet as a hot broth will make you feel comfortable.
  • Cover your mouth and nose while sneezing and coughing.
  • Stay home from work, school, office and social activities try take plenty of rest.

Always remember when you are infected with flu be a couch potato stay at home and away from people even if you feel better as other people or your family members may get infected with flu virus. Take doctors consultation immediatelyas prevention is better than cure.
