5 Types Valves An Oil Gas Engineer Must Know

Valves are important components of every oil gas engineer’s life. It is part of the piping system. It is utilized in the oil and gas industries for several purposes. Majorly, the valves are used to control the flow of oil. It is also used for protecting the equipment by handling the flow of oil and gas. The valves are, in some circumstances, used for refining crude oil. Therefore all the engineers who are serving in the oil and gas industries must know about the different types of valves available.

Here are some of the five popular valves which every oil has engineer must know.

The five common valves used in oil and gas industries

• Ball valves

This type of valves gets its name from the ball-shaped disk that is created to control the flow of gases, vapors, and liquids. The ball valves are designed to quarter-turn the rotational valves. The ball valves are produced from metallic components that aid in ensuring the durability even in difficult operating conditions. But for the seat of the valves, the soft material such as Teflon is used. This kind of combination of materials makes the valve suitable for operating in temperatures as low as -200 ºC and high as 500 ºC.

• Gate valves

The valves are bidirectional. It is created to start and stop the flow of fluids. It is suitable for use while there is a restriction of a minimum flow of fluid. These types of valves are kept open fully or close. The disc in the gate valves are removed when it is open, and this is done because it allows easy flow of contents. The gate valves cannot be opened and closed easily.

• Pressure seal valves

The pressure seal valves are created for high-pressure services. It differs from others by its pressure seal bonnets. This bonnet helps in protecting the joints when there is an increase in internal pressure. Usually, the pressure seal valves are utilized for applications that involve pressures of more than 170 bars.

• Check values

These types of valves are made to protect the mechanical equipment in the piping system. This will avoid the reverse flowing of the fluid. It is used essentially in compressors and pumps where the backflow of liquid is huge. The backflow of the liquid will be damaging to the internal parts of the piping system. This will result in unnecessary downtime and can also affect other parts of the plant too. The check valves in stainless steel are well known.

• Globe valves

These types of valves are utilized for the transportation of fuel oil and the turbine oil systems. It is also used for cooling water systems. It is a linear motion valve that can be utilized for starting, stopping, and regulating. It is used from the first for isolation and throttling services. But because of some merits like shut off ability, the globe valves have become popular.

These are the five types of valves that the oil and gas engineers have to know certainly. One of the most reputed companies is Camtech Manufacturing which is owned by Dhananjay Choudhary Camtech. The company deals in manufacturing of high quality valve in Dubai, UAE.
