Ultrasonic Toothbrush: How Does it Work?

All thanks to technology, we now have several developments in the dental world. In addition, part of the developments there are what we call ultrasonic toothbrushes. Sounds fancy, we know. However, this is just another name for a type of electronic toothbrush.

There are three different types of electronic toothbrushes. Namely, these are the electronic toothbrush, the sonic toothbrush and the ultrasonic toothbrush.

If you are interested in buying a new toothbrush, be sure to take a look at this list of the best electric toothbrushes in 2020.

But for now, lets discuss the ultrasonic toothbrush.

The Ultrasonic Toothbrush

When it comes to the ultrasonic toothbrush, there is a piezo crystal. It is with this crystal that the toothbrush creates waves.

The ultrasonic toothbrush can move in two different ways. This is up and down as well as side to side.

The head of the toothbrush is able to move in circular motion. Giving the toothbrush the ability to rotate in a small semi-circular manner.

Frequency

For this toothbrush, the frequency is set at 1.6 MHz This means that the toothbrush is able to go through 1.6 million rotations in both directions within every second.

Breaking it down further, this means that, with each minute, you will get 192 million rotations. These will be made up of 96 million movements both forwards and backwards. This is for the ultrasonic toothbrush which uses vibration motions.

For the ultrasonic toothbrush that uses rotations, it has the same frequency. Meaning that you will get the same 192 million movements per second. In this case, however, instead of upwards and backwards you will get 92 million movement that are in a clockwise and an anti-clockwise manner.

Sounds like a pretty good clean, eh?

How to use an Ultrasonic Toothbrush

There are different types of ultrasonic toothbrushes. Some of which will combine the ultrasonic movement with the ultrasonic sounds. However, what is common among them is the use of the piezo crystal. This crystal can release frequencies of at least 20 000hz.

When it comes to using the toothbrush to brush your teeth. You can use it in two different ways these are rotations and up/ down movements.

The Rotational Ultrasonic Toothbrush

When you use the toothbrush that uses circular rotations. All that you need to do is to move it from the first tooth to second one and so on. Since it will be rotating, there is no needs for you to move it up and down.

The Vibrational Ultrasonic Toothbrush

Using this type of toothbrush is the same as using the regular toothbrush. That means you need to move the toothbrush up and down and as well as to and fro to get your teeth clean.
