Northern California’s Napa and Sonoma wine countries have quickly transformed into a fast-growing tourist destination with nearly 4 million wine loving guests visiting each year. An escape to the vineyards from San Francisco or Sacramento is an easy one to two-hour drive when looking for a quick destination getaway. Even with over 70% of California’s wine being produced in the central valley, the 16 American Viticulture Areas that make up the Napa Valley area are definitely the most well-known and famous.

The highly desired wines that are produced in this region have resulted in a mass increase in the amount of tourists visiting each year. The number of wineries in this 30 miles long and 5 mile across territory has grown exponentially to over 500 wineries in Napa Valley alone. Matched with another 400 plus wineries in Sonoma, there is an overwhelming number of choices.

Most tourists will stay on the valley floor, exploring the wineries that are right off Silverado Trail and Highway 29. Those who are looking for a unique wine tasting experience, a private wine tour for small groups can introduce you to the hidden gems that are tucked away in the mountains of wine country.

Here are some of our favorite mountain wineries you do not want to miss out on:

Pride Mountain Vineyards:

Tucked away 7 miles up at the top of Spring Mountain, the incredible views are picturesque. When visiting the winery you are surrounded by Mount St. Helena on one side and beautiful rolling vineyard hills in every other direction. With their tasting room blending perfectly into the mountainside of their 235-acre estate, you will tickle many of your senses from taste to sight to sound to smell during our wine tasting and wine tour if you are interested. Fun fact, Pride Mountain is considered one of the many wineries in Napa Valley and wineries in Sonoma. Why? Because it’s perfectly placed on the county lines!

CADE Estate Winery:

The first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified Estate Winery in Napa Valley and home to powerful Cabernet Sauvignons. Nestled atop Howell Mountain, this estate is home to some breath-taking panoramic views of wine country. Join them at one of their two properties for a tasting and an unforgettable experience as you learn the history of their vineyards. With their take on natural experiences and recycled materials you will not forget the sight of their glass surrounded fermentation room with natural light and their blue jeans insulated tasting room (take a peek at their viewing window inside the tasting room if you don’t believe us).

Jarvis Estate Winery:

Nestled between Mt. George and Milliken Canyon this winery is home to over 45,000 square feet of winery caves. This winery is known for its fully underground design and winemaking practices. Join the team for an exploration through their caves in the mountainside that hold their entire wine facility including their large fermentation tanks. Viewing the underground waterfall that runs through their caves while sipping on wines is an experience like no other.

Taste your way through some of these exciting wineries in Napa Valley and wineries in Sonoma on a private small wine tour through the mountain side! We look forward to welcoming you to wine country.
