Importance of colour and design in our presentations!

Colors and design play a very important role in our lives. Every color and every design carries a message of their own. So, it is up to us as to how do we utilize it to our benefit with respect to our presentations. Powerpoint is one such software that provides us a lot of creative freedom to design our presentations in whichever way we deem fit and yet more often than not we simply let go of that opportunity!

The importance of using colors to send subtle messages is a very ancient practice. The kings of Europe, from the era of antiquity, used to use the color purple a lot. For them the color purple meant royalty. So whenever a subject of that era would lay his or her eyes on someone who was wearing the color purple they would know that this individual was from the royal family.

In India, the importance of colors was emphasized a lot as well. In Medieval India, the colors red and white were the favorite colors of the Mughals. So whenever the common people would see these colors on somebody they would know that this individual is associated with the royal household. The Mughals even color their buildings red and white so that people would know from a distance that commissioned the building.

If we fast forward to the contemporary era and we know that former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, an individual who took each of his presentations seriously, would pay special attention to the design and color scheme of his presentations. For Jobs, it would always be a shade of blue which would almost be bordering on purple. In my opinion that was to create a mystical aura around Apple products, be it the iPhone, iPad or any other product. In my opinion, it was Steve Jobs indirectly communicating to the world this product is one of the most unique in the world.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai is not far behind in the usage choosing colors and designs in his presentation which would gel with the type of message he would be trying to give out. The color white is integral to Google. So Sundar Pichai will often use a template with a white background and in the middle of the template include a graphic in which multi-colored lines would keep rotating quietly in the background. The effect such a graphic would have on the audience was that the people would it attractive, so even if the presentation of Sundar Pichai became technical for some time, the graphics would ensure the people would not zone out altogether.

So, whenever you are preparing a powerpoint presentation you have to make sure that you take care of these aspects while giving out a presentation. That is because even in the moments when you are not communicating with the audience your presentation is still communicating with the audience.
