Madinah is the 2nd holiest city of Islam after Makkah. Both Remain situated in Saudia Arabia. It is located at a distance of 450 Kilometres from Makkah, in the Hejaz region. It’s the resting place of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) i.e. Roza-e-Rasool is present here. Madinah is the house to many holy places including the prominent mosques; the Quba Mosque, Masjid-al-Nabawi (PBUH) and Masjid-al-Qiblatayn (the mosque of the two Qiblas). Although visiting Madinah is not an obligation/ritual of Umrah, but all the pilgrims travelling from umrah packages London and other cities visit the holy city in love of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). They come here, offer prayers, go for Ziyarath and then return back to Makkah or to their homes.
Here’s how Madinah become an important city in Islam.

1. Migration of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW).

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) was born in Makkah. He (PBUH) grew up there and also received the first revelation of the Holy Quran from Allah in Cave of Hira that is also present in Makkah. However, after prophethood when Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) started preaching the message of Islam, Quraysh started troubling him (PBUH). The problems they paved in his (SAWW) way lead to such an extent that Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW), by the will of Allah Almighty, migrated to Madinah but leaving Makkah with a very heavy heart.

After Migration Development in the City.

After, migration to Madinah, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) himself started the construction of Mosque (Masjid-al-Nabawi) there. He (PBUH) established such brotherhood between the Muhajireen of Makkah and residents of Madinah, an example of which can hardly be seen in the world. He (SAWW) then also formed good relations with other communities living in Madinah. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) Started the developing the city;

  • 50 wells were opened for water supply in the city.
  • Encouraged the people to cultivate the land and make gardens. Soon, there was enough food and water for people.
  • Poverty was eradicated from the city in a short span of time.

In short, Madinah became the safest city with an exceptional law and order system. A state which can be fairly and honestly called a “Welfare State” for all; Muslims as well as non-Muslims.

2. Presence of Masjid-al-Nabawi and Roza-e-Rasool.

Masjid-e-Nabawi is the 2nd most important mosque of Islam. Significance of which comes right after Masjid-al-Haram (Makkah) and before Masjid-al-Aqsa (Jerusalem). It also served as a religious school, community centre, a court and even confinement for prisoners. Roza-e-Rasool is also here as well as Riyaad-ul-Jannah (Garden of the Paradise).

3. House to Many sacred sites of Islam.

Madinah is a house to many sacred sites of Islam where pilgrims go for Ziyarath. Prominently Including;

  • Masjid-e-Ghamama.
  • Site of Battle of the Trench.
  • Masjid-e-Ijabah.
  • Cave of Uhud and Graves of Hamza (RA) and Martyrs of Uhud.
  • Masjid-e-Jumuah.
  • Jannat-ul-Baqi.
  • Masjid-e-Abubakar (RA).
