6 Requirements of Effective Equipment Maintenance

Equipment maintenance in any golf course facility is inevitable. It's not instinctive, but a well-set plan that results in the optimum utilization of resources. One can not be negligent towards the maintenance of golf course equipment as they require regular repair and replacement. Planning also determines the budget for these activities. 

The importance of effective equipment maintenance

As mentioned above, every Golf course needs the optimum utilization of resources to be sufficiently profitable. The planning committee of any golf course has this responsibility. Regular repair of the fleet of equipment ensures that it gives the facility the most it can without breaking down. Regular maintenance helps it to last long and realize its full worth. 

So, let's go through the requirements that ensure effective equipment maintenance in any golf course. 

Requirements of effective equipment maintenance

Effective equipment maintenance can be divided into two parts. These parts include general maintenance and specific. Let's take a look at each of them in detail. 

• General Maintenance

General maintenance means to take the fleet of equipment on the golf course facility as a whole. Every machine has certain common traits that need to be lubricated from time to time. The bearings and bushings in each equipment must be greased to reduce friction and reduce the chance of failures. 

It's a rule of thumb. The time of greasing is also mentioned in the rule book. It's just after washing a piece of equipment. Every Golf course should make it a routine to clean its fleet of machinery regularly. Greasing here helps to purge water that doesn’t escape through normal evaporation. And if proper greasing is not done, it can corrode those parts. 

General maintenance of equipment also includes replacing fluids and filters at the right time. Every piece of machinery has its own recommendations that come with packing. Maintaining the level of fluids in a piece of machinery requires the manager checking it regularly for leaks. It's a classic example of the importance of regular maintenance.

• Specific Maintenance

As the name suggests, specific maintenance is for all the equipment that works on the golf course individually. For example, a particular type of golf turf equipment, say mowers, will be categorized in one drill. Let's go through each variety of equipment that needs for effective maintenance. 

1. Golf course mowers need regular replacement of the blades that cut the grass. Also, consider the position and periodic adjustment of heights to cut the grass uniformly throughout the course. 

2. Then come the aerators that have a primary function in the spring season. As these are only useful in a particular season, they should be stored appropriately. If any problem arises in the off-season, they must be readily available. Then comes the work of sprayers that come into action if you want to maintain the health of the soil and grass. These come into play when aerators and mowers do not work correctly. If you do not have appropriate aerators, the golf course health might be in question. 

3. All these equipment must be categorized into manual or automatic, and then the maintenance schedule should be determined.

Always note the schedules when any equipment is being serviced as read so many equipment, every manager will get confused. There’s nothing called mental notes of something as confusing, especially when it's highly technical. If you do that, all these steps will seem simple to implement.
