International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an internationally recognized test of measuring your proficiency in English via point 9 band scale. Similarly, all the tasks are sourced from journals and publications from all over the English- Speaking world, extensive native-speaker accents (British, American, Australian, etc.) are employed in the listening, reading, writing and speaking tests. Most importantly, all standard varieties of English are accepted in candidates’ written or spoken answers or responses.

So to be successful in all the modules, candidates must possess effective interpersonal and communication skills in English. If you hesitate in communicating with others in English, your chances of studying or working in a foreign country may be bounded, and persuade of having good credentials, you may lose multiple opportunities.

Most importantly, Grammar is an imperative component of IELTS in which one can say that Grammar is a salient feature for IELTS but its advantage differs from module to module. In the case of writing and speaking modules, grammar sways more merit as compared to reading and listening modules.

In Reading and Listening modules

In these two modules, grammatical knowledge is imperative while selecting the correct option, getting a clue regarding the demand of the question and while writing down the correct answer. Along with this, the answer is given in the passage itself in Reading or spoken by the speaker on listening audio. However, for some tricky or difficult questions, a sound knowledge of grammar is required to get the correct answer.

In writing and speaking modules

In these two modules, grammar matters a lot as candidates do most of the descriptive work while expressing their thoughts and ideas. So while attempting the writing module, the candidate has to be grammatically correct in Task 1 and Task 2. There should not be a few grammatical errors done to score the desired bands.

The only difference between writing and speaking is that in writing module the candidate can erase or edit whatever he or she notices is incorrect. While, in the speaking module, candidates have to be cautious, and attentive while uttering words because whatever is once spoken cannot be taken back. So test takers must be very alert while speaking. Hence, it cannot be denied that Grammar plays an important role in each of the components of IELTS.
