Jain Farm Fresh Foods Ltd. – Pioneering the green revolution

In 1965, India prayed for a new vision for agriculture, and the green revolution came to the rescue. This programme influenced many farmers to use high yielding variety seeds (HYV), irrigation systems, pesticides and fresh agro products As a result, farmers were able to produce arable crops, like wheat and barley, which rescued many people from starvation and famine.

Since farming requires water in high quantity, lack of rainfall becomes the biggest challenge for farmers. In 1965, this situation became quite prominent in India as the country reeled under droughts. With the help of irrigation methods, farmers were able to deal with this precarious situation. However, even though the problem of drought was resolved, the need to find a practical solution to preserve the precious water was still there.

To address this issue new method called micro-irrigation was created — this method aimed at conserving water and fertilisers while keeping the productivity of the crop as the main priority. Such improvement in irrigation facilitated the crop’s growth majorly in food processing industry and achieved a higher yield that met the market’s demand.

However, the only problem with adopting this method was that the small farmers could not afford it. In 1988 Jain irrigation systems Ltd. resolved this obstacle by introducing micro irrigation method to small farmers and encouraged them to produce fertile crops that have a higher yield.

“Per drop, per crop” a strategy religiously followed by Jain irrigation system Ltd.,

Due to recurring droughts in 2012, 2015 and 2016, micro-irrigation became a priority in India. Jain Irrigation Systems Limited puts their primary focus on boosting crop yield by cutting down the additional cost of fertilisers, labour and water. For this, they use two types of irrigation systems.

Drip Irrigation

What is it?

To get efficient growth, it is necessary to keep the soil fertile. Drip irrigation system puts a primary focus on the rootlets of the plants and uses an emitter to pour water directly on the roots. In this technique, the soil is able to absorb high moisture through which plants are able to reach their potential growth.

Process:

Drip irrigation is done by installing a network of mainlines, lateral lines and emission points. Each dripper/emitter supplies water and nutrients directly into the plant’s roots. With the combined forces of gravity and capillary action, plants are able to replenish lost moisture and nutrients from the roots.

2) Sprinkler irrigation

What is it?

Unlike drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation focuses on the entire plant. The water is not only sprayed on roots but is sprayed on the whole plant. Due to a circular sprinkler, this irrigation is capable of covering the entire area at once. So, it does not matter if the area is small or large, sprinkler irrigation will cover all the plants with its 360-degree spraying method.

Process

Sprinkler systems work with the help of pipelines, sprinkler heads, and spray nozzles. First, the water is transferred through pipes under an adequate pressure, then the water reaches the spray head and is further sprayed into the air through spray nozzles.

Jain irrigation systems Ltd., with its jain irrigation products and effective programmes like drip and sprinkler systems, has emerged as the second largest irrigation company in the world. The company ensures that both the irrigation systems are designed in such a way that they save maximum water. All the components of the sprinkler systems undergo extensive quality testing, to ensure that the parts used in irrigation are durable and long lasting.

Due to such modern agriculture practices like drip and sprinkler irrigation. Jain irrigation systems Ltd. is able to expand their processed unit’s reach through farm-fresh online.
