Bamboo Wood - Features and its uses

Posted by John Smith on February 5th, 2020

The use of bamboo wood, although it may seem so to Westerners, is nothing new. It has been used in some areas of Asia for endless uses since there is knowledge. It has not been until the last decades that American professionals have begun to pay attention to this bambusparkett and know its many virtues.

Bamboo wood characteristics:

The first thing to say is that bamboo wood does not come from a tree, but is an herb, which brings many changes to what we are used to.

Hardness:

According to the scale (a scale that classifies wood according to its hardness and resistance to shocks) bamboo has superior resistance to oak. It is much superior to pine or spruce, very common wood both in furniture manufacturing and construction.

Color:

Parkett bambus has a light color, almost white, naturally, however, it is common to find it after having gone through a roasting process, which can give it much darker shades.

Price:

Being a species of very rapid growth and being in so many and so diverse areas of the planet is an economic wood. Sometimes it may seem that it has a high price, which is usually due to import costs.

Moisture resistance:

Among the characteristics of bamboo, we find resistance to humidity superior to that of many kinds of wood, although not as much as some tropical ones.

Stability:

While in the West it has been difficult to find works made with bamboo until a few years ago, in Asia it is used to make houses, bridges or even temples.

One of the uses that this wood is receiving most is the manufacture of parquets or pallets. It is because it allows having a very resistant, economical and very lowing maintenance floor.

There is a growing demand for bamboo by companies and people who show interest in the environment and the conservation of natural resources.

Other than wood-related uses, bamboo can be used to manufacture textile fibers, to control the erosion of territory and even as food.
