How To Conserve Water For A Sustainable Life

Water sustainability leads to a sustainable life. You can save money on utility and energy bills in Australia when you conserve water. Water is so precious that we cannot afford to misuse it. It is a resource that makes the earth unique and habitable. So, whether you are facing a water shortage or not, it is essential to find ways to conserve water. When you conserve water, you will also save money on utility bills. While 71% of the earth’s surface is covered with water, only 3% of the water is freshwater and out of this 3%, most of it is locked in glaciers and ice. We are left with a very small percentage of freshwater to use. Conserving water is not difficult. It is all about the little things we do daily. Here are a few tips for conserving water in your home.

Turn off the tap when not using it

People have a habit of keeping the water running while shaving, brushing teeth or bathing. This wastes a lot of water that can help someone else. Instead, you should turn off the tap when shaving until it is time to wash. The same applies to taking a bath. When scrubbing yourself, you can turn off the shower until it is time to wash yourself.

Soak your dishes in warm water before cleaning

Instead of scraping your dishes in running water, you can soak them in water. You will save time, effort and water.

Run your laundry and dishwasher only when it is full

This is one of the best water sustainability ideasthat you should never forget. Dishwashers and washing machines spend a lot of water per cycle. If you have old laundry machines, consider replacing them with newer models that use less water. Once you have efficient dishwashers and washing machines, make sure they are full before running them. This will save water and cut on your utility bills.

Avoid the long showers

Some people take long hot showers just to warm up their bodies and when they get out of the shower they feel cold. If you could cut the extra minutes you spend in a shower or fill your bath halfway instead of full then you can save a lot of water and money on your utility bills. There are better ways to keep your body warm such as putting on a sweater.

Use water-saving devices

If you like long showers then you can install low-flow showerheads instead. These types of showerheads tend to use lesser water and still offer a satisfying shower. You should use ultra-low flush toilets as they use less water and are as effective as the other types of toilets.

Use water softeners

This water sustainability tip will help you use less water when cleaning. Using hard water will need a lot of soap and water. If you are using hard water in your home then you should consider using water softeners. You should have your water tested before you are certain it is hard water.
