  1. HRA Account: HRA or Health Reimbursement Arrangement is now provided to the members of the Carpenters Union as benefits. The Bargaining Unit Employees whose balance in the Dollar Bank Account exceeds the contribution amount, required for the payment of six months coverage, has the option to use the excess amount for payment of out-of-the-pocket medical expenses incurred on or after 1st January 2018. This option is available for the active eligible or retired Plan Participants. The automatic features of the HRA offer automatic reimbursement of some out-of-the-pocket expenses like deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. These automatic features can be used twice a year and you have to contact the Fund Office for the purpose.   2. Maternity leave: As effective from 1st January 2018, the members can enjoy the benefits of paid maternity leaves now. Any female Eligible employee can apply for paid maternity leave benefit during her pregnancy or after delivery of biologically her own child. The benefits for an amount of 0 per week are given to the eligible member under this benefit. The employees are eligible for a six-week maternity leave benefits in case of normal delivery and an additional two-weeks, besides the six-weeks, maternity leave benefits in case of cesarean delivery. Besides the six to eight weeks leave after delivery, an eligible employee can also apply for maternity leaves benefit during her pregnancy. The total leaves benefit can be of up to twenty-six weeks, incase the eligible employee is certified to be Totally Disabled due to her pregnancy-related conditions. 

  3. Short-term disability: The Maximum Weekly Disability Benefit has been increased from 0 to 0 for all the claims filed on or after 1st April 2018. This increase has come as a result of an amendment in the plan. 

  4. Long-term disability: The Long-term disability benefit begins after 180 days of short-term disability. It is advised to apply for long-term disability benefits if you are certain that you will not be able to work for more than 6 months. 

  5. Health benefits: All the members who meet the semi-annual qualifying requirements get coverage for all the family members under the Carpenters Health Benefits Funds. The health coverage provides covers with any medical, dental, vision, accident, sickness, prescription drugs and life insurance expenses. 

  6. Pension: After retirement, the Pension Funds provide monthly benefits to help with your personal savings, annuity benefits, and social security. The members can enjoy monthly payments provided under the fund after retirement age or if you retire early due to any disability or retirement with a service pension. The benefits vary based on the contributions made by your employer to your pension fund, on your behalf. 

  7. Annuity funds: The members of the Carpenters union get a supplemental retirement income under the Annuity Funds. Each member gets an individual account in which the contribution is made by the employer for every working hour of the member. These funds can only be accessed after retirement or after you decide to leave the plan for 24 months consecutively or after becoming permanently disabled. However, you can take a loan of up to 50% of the balance amount under certain circumstances, after completion of 12 months in the plan.
