Why the SWMS Template is Required?

Posted by Safety Specialist on February 6th, 2020

A Safe Work Method Statement or SWMS is a document that outlines 18 major high-risk activities that the Australian Government considered such as construction work activities, use of explosions on the sites, work around the chemical sites, gas and highly flammable materials, electronic installations at the high energized sites, hazards associated with the activity, work in a confined space, and the control measures in place to manage these jeopardizes. Safe Work Method Statement Template is required before performing any such high-risk activities to ensure safety and proper implementation of standard operating procedures.

The Use of Safe work method statement template:

This SWMS template is designed to provide the list of 18 high-risk construction activities and the safety measurements to be used in such activities. It is to must have before performing any such high-risk construction activities. This template documents about all the work that to be carried out at a workplace, associated hazards with these activities, and the safety control measurements to be used to mitigate the risks. This document serves as a complete guide for the site inspectors in various ways, let’s discuss how:

  • This template has a list of involved tasks and associated risks with each task of all such eighteen high-risks sites such as a construction site, the site where high explosion material used, or the highly flammable chemicals used sites etc.
  • It allows the inspector to take the photos of all the high-risk activities that are identified during the work on the site.
  • Inspectors have to give their comments and recommendations
  • It gives the list to set and assign remedial measures through Actions
  • At last, the inspector has to complete the report by providing his digital signature.

Let’s discuss SWMS Template used for Different Activities such as Construction, electrical, and fall protections etc:

Construction SWMS (Safety Work Method Statement) Template:

A construction SWMS (Safety Work Method Statement) template is a document that is designed to provide the list of involved tasks and risk activities that comes under the construction sites, also guides how the construction work or process should be performed.  This template identifies and explains specific vulnerabilities for high-risk construction work. It helps you in determining the control measures that should be placed to complete the work efficiently and safely.

    SWMS Template for Fall Protection:

During working on heights on the constructions sites, hundreds of deaths are reported. To mitigate such risks of falls, you can use the SWMS template to control the fall as it outlines the required tasks and its safety measurements. For example, when working on heights to complete the tasks associated with walls and roofs, the involved high risks are slips, falls, collisions, and trips which can be controlled with the use of safety measurements such as sturdy ladders, self-retracting lifeline, LINQ Twin-Tail Tools, LINQ tool straps etc.

    SWMS Template for Electrical Tasks:

Electrical hazards should not be overlooked by workers and the site owners. With the use of SWMS for electrical these risks can be controlled to complete the tasks safely and efficiently.
