Gift ideas for teenagers: How difficult it can be.

Teenagers are not particularly well-known for being the most easy-going people. This can mean that finding a gift that a teenager will actually like pretty tricky. Because how can you know that they won't think a gift is too childish or out of fashion? Luckily there are a couple of things you can do to try and prevent this from happening. Let's talk about the steps to take before deciding on a gift to give a teenager.

Step 1: Talk to their parents

Your first step when trying to find a good gift for a teen is to talk to their parents to figure out what they're into and what they aren't into at all. Because something might be a trend with most teenagers, that doesn't mean it is popular with every teen.

So the first thing to ask is what they're interested in, what their hobbies are and what they do during their spare time. Another thing to ask is if they are saving up for something. Because if they are, then the best gift you can give is some money and perhaps a small gift to go along with it.

Now, if you are the parent and your teen is not very clear on what they're interested in, you can always ask their siblings or cousins. Most of the time, they will know what they might want or what kind of a gift they would appreciate.

Step 2: Figure out your budget

Gifts for teenagers can be incredibly expensive, especially when it comes to technology and makeup. So before you start looking around the internet for a gift, decide for yourself what your budget is. And decide if you want to spend it all on one big gift, or rather give a couple of smaller gifts.

Both options are a good idea to make sure that you stay within budget. Because you want to avoid spending more than you can afford on a gift that you're not sure that they'll actually like.

Step 3: Start Googling

Once you know how much to spend, and you have an idea of their interests. (And perhaps even a list of gift suggestions given to you by their friends.) Then it's time to go on the internet. There are loads of gift guides out there that are specific and themed.

For example, you will find an abundance of 'beauty lover' gift guides if you're want to find a gift for a teen girl obsessed with makeup. So go to google and just type in their interests and put 'gift guide' or 'gift ideas' behind it. You will get several lists to help you find that perfect teen gift in your price range.

Still no gift? Play it safe.

But what if you didn't get a clear answer on what they liked or are interested in? Well, then you can always go for a more general gift.

For teen boys, a good plan is to look for technology and gadgets and keep it affordable. A good budget to stay under is , because then you don't feel bad about it if the gift isn't used all that often. A good place to find some gift ideas is this gift guide for teen boys, filled with gifts under .

When it comes to teen girls, it'll be a bit trickier. Because teen girls can be so different. It can be a girly girl or more a tomboy. So, I do suggest to keep that distinction in mind when you're looking for gifts. A good list to find gift ideas is this gift guide for teen girls, again all under .

Once you've gone through a couple of gift guides you will have some ideas to help you find that perfect gift for a teenager.

And if, after all this effort, your gift is still not a success, then you can just blame it on the teenage hormones, because everyone knows how fickle and picky a teen can be.
