Butt Weld Detection for ERWPosted by Invisual E. Inc. on February 12th, 2020 Invisual E. Inc. is pleased to announce that we successfully completed the installation of a butt weld system on an ERW HFI tube production line. The client, producing oil and gas pipe provided the gateway for us to deliver this project. HFI or erw pipe tube production is the fastest methods to produce tube and pipe. The industry faces several pressures such as high competition, both domestically and foreign, raw material costs, and client quality demands. To be profitable, erw pipe mills need to be efficient, have high yield and volume. To the layman observer, producing erw tube and erw pipe seems straightforward. Material goes into the mill and round sections exit. People in the industry understand that the process is complicated and the challenge is to maximize efficiency and yield amongst the dynamics of the erw pipe production process. As a supplier to oil and gas, quality is paramount to successful programs. High value and of key importance for this ERW / HFI tube producer, is the ability for the butt weld system to signal the butt weld whereby the signal is used in their control structure. To achieve this task, a pair of sensors are used in conjunction with one another. Both sensors need to trigger within a predetermined time limit for the butt weld signal output to the master PLC control.
