Jabal-ar-Rahmah is an Arabic word translating to ‘Mount of Mercy’. It is also known as ‘Jabal-e-Arafat’ or ‘Arafat Mountain’. Located 20 kilometres east of Makkah in the Hejaz region, Mount Arafat is present in the plain of Arafat. It is about 70 meters (i.e. 230 feet) in height with an elevation of around 454 meters (1,490 feet). It’s a famous Ziyarath site for pilgrims arriving with umrah packages from Manchester and other cities of the world. On the other hand, staying here is a necessary ritual for hajj pilgrims.

Here’s a brief description of the history, importance, and facts to know about Mount Arafat.

Farewell Sermon.

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) delivered his (SAWW) ‘farewell sermon’ standing here. Thus, Mount Arafat holds great significance for Muslims

The essence of Hajj.

Staying at Arafat on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah after leaving Mina, is one of the most essential and primary rituals of Hajj. As a matter of fact, if someone missies/skips its stay at Arafat, his/her hajj would become invalid. That’s why every year during Hajj, millions of pilgrims gather here; spend the day in praying; perform Dhikr and ask for forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrated about it that; (description) (the essence of) Hajj is Arafat.

Virtues of the Day of Arafat.

Hazrat Aisha (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAWW) once said: (description) There is no other day in which Allah Almighty sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the Day of Arafat; And on that day Allah Almighty draws near to the earth and, by way of exhibiting His Pride remarks to the angels; ‘What is the desire of these (servants of mine)?

Fasting;

Fasting on the Day of Arafah remains ‘Mustahab’ i.e. desirable for those who are not on the journey of Hajj because it holds great rewards. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrated that; (description) Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.

While for pilgrims, it’s prohibited to fast on the Day of Arafah.

Meeting of Hazrat Adam (AS) and Hazrat Hawa (AS).

The literal meaning of the word Arafat is ‘to know’. When Hazrat Adam (AS) was taken out of Jannah and placed on Earth, it was here (Mount Arafat) where Adam (AS) and Hawa (AS) met.

Day of Qayamat.

On the Day of Qayamat (the Day of Judgement), all the people would be summoned to gather in the plain of Arafat.

The revelation of the Quran.

Allah Almighty revealed a verse of the Holy Quran to Prophet (SAWW), when he (SAWW) was standing on Arafat on a Friday; Surah Al-Ma'idah [5:3].

 So, if you are visiting Makkah for a minor pilgrimage through Ramadan umrah packages London 2020, don’t forget to go for the Ziyarath of this sacred mountain also.
