Can caffeine really help you lose weight?

According to a recent article in the Daily Mail, drinking coffee can really hold the key to fighting obesity. Caffeine helps burn calories by increasing the release of oxytocin. This hormone affects appetite and metabolism therefore scientists suggest it allows people to fight their protruding waistlines. Chinese researchers recently discovered that during their experiments in mice with excess weight, high levels of caffeine actually helped them slim down. That makes them eat less and inspires them to be more active on the machine that runs the wheels.

Well, we are not sure about that, but hey, we will try to see a smaller waist. Interested? Well we look a little deeper into the pros and cons of caffeine:

What pro?

Studies show that it can have various health benefits, including combating liver disease and type two diabetes.
Research even suggested that it could even help people live longer.
This is the most popular consumption stimulant in the world and reports show it can increase daily energy expenditure by around five percent.
Researchers say that combining two to four coffees daily with regular exercise will be even more effective for weight loss.
A 2015 study shows that only a few cups a day can help millions of dieters stay slim once they have achieved the desired weight.

What are the cons?

An average cup of black coffee contains 2 calories. Hardly enough to make you pile up pounds. Calories emerge as soon as you start adding sweet things; Flavor syrup, milk and whipped cream.
The whole basic milk latte has 170 calories, double that of a large vanilla latte with the help of an extra 6g of fat. And don't we stare at the big Frappe (87 g of sugar) ?!
Black coffee itself has been proven to act as a mild appetite suppressant, but all that sugar will make you carve more.
Does Coffee Affect Ketosis?

Ketosis develops when you use glycogen stores and need an alternative energy source. Caffeine has the potential to interfere with glucose metabolism, which in turn can affect ketosis, although the limit of ketosis is very far from the body to the body so the evidence is not concrete.

Many low-carb diets continue to enjoy caffeine-containing drinks without a serious impact on weight loss or ketosis. However, if your body is very resistant to insulin, you may need to limit or even eliminate caffeine completely

If not, make sure you stick to a cup of black coffee and avoid calorie chain items.
