As wire harness manufacturers, Sino-Media specialized in jst and molex wire harness at home and abroad. Today, we would like to tell you an important criterion for the selection of high quality wire in wire harness application.

When the alternating current passes through the wire, the current will flow on the surface of the wire, so that the resistance of the wire increases, the loss power also increases, this is the skin effect. The higher the frequency of current or voltage change, the more significant the skin effect.

The skin effect is one of the most basic distortion processes in the signal line and may be the most easily overlooked and misunderstood. Due to the different components of the transmitter, the skin effect may be inconsistent in transmitting high-frequency signals. Similarly, on obsolete wiring harness conductors, the skin effect encourages signal currents to bounce interactively across multiple wiring harnesses, creating harsh marks for sound.

In order to weaken skin effect, in high frequency circuits, multiple insulated wires are often woven into bundles instead of thick wires with the same cross-sectional area.

Using skin effect, hollow copper conductor can be used instead of new copper conductor in high frequency circuit to save copper material. Although its resistivity will increase, it will not affect the transmission performance, but also increase the tensile strength of the transmission line.

In the application of industrial wire harness, surface hardening of metal can be carried out by skin effect. In addition, skin effect is also one of the methods of electromagnetic mask, the use of skin effect can prevent high frequency electromagnetic wave penetration into good conductor and become an electromagnetic mask device, which is also the reason for the poor mobile phone signal in the elevator.
