Elements of the beautiful landscape paintings can be found in the art of ancient Greece. The halls of the Knossos Palace in Crete have so far preserved frescoes, wall paintings with realistic images of people against the background of the sea, gardens, mountain landscape.

  • In European art of the Middle Ages, the landscape was present in the landscape canvas painting only in the form of necessary decorations for religious, battle scenes and portraits. During this period, unsuccessful attempts to transfer space are noticeable, the proportions and scale of the composition are violated. Only in the Renaissance, artists began to study the linear and aerial perspective, which was a breakthrough in the history of the landscape.

  • Landscape in the form of an independent genre appeared in ancient China as a lyrical direction, glorifying the beauty and grace of pristine nature. Chinese artists subtly painted mountain peaks, stones, bamboo branches, sakura flowers and curved pine trees. The paintings were created in the form of monochrome monochrome landscapes and were accompanied by hieroglyphs. Chinese art had a great influence on the development of the landscape in the countries of the Far East: Japan, Mongolia, Korea.
