Hospital management includes establishing policy, managing reimbursement issues, staffing, ensuring compliance with laws, tracking and measuring quality of care, enforcing guidelines, purchasing drugs and durable goods, and making sure that the hospital can operate financially. Essentially, hospital managers manage the delivery of healthcare and ensure that processes are in place for the hospital to run smoothly. In the last few years healthcare administration jobs as a whole have proliferated and the bureau of labor projects 16% growth or 45,400 additional jobs from 2008 to 2016, faster than the average growth rate for all occupations.
