Why Is Polycrystalline Solar Cell So Popular?

Posted by michellumb55 on February 18th, 2020

Polycrystalline Solar Module, which at times is known as multi-crystalline solar panels, is the most common because they are cheap. They are the best choice in the market. It is as good as a single cell monocrystalline silicon panels but with a much effective than thin-film solar panels.

Polycrystalline can be identified by a visible grain that is a metal flake effect. Solar cells have a squared shape and have a surface that looks like a mosaic: this is because of the different crystals that make up the module.

How Polycrystalline Cells Are Made

The reason why Polycrystalline Solar Module are cheaper than the monocrystalline solar panels is because of the silicon composition. For instance, the molten silicon is poured into a cast rather than being made into a single crystal.

The material can be synthesized very quickly by giving some time for the liquid silicon to cool . Besides, other methods can be used to crystallize amorphous silicon to form polysilicon. Such methods include high-temperature chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

The casting process involves the melting of silicon pieces in a ceramic cubicle and later formed in a graphite mold to create metal.

Although molding and using multiple silicon cells are cheap and require less silicon, it lessens the efficiency of the solar panels.

Efficiency

Generally, polycrystalline panels have an approximate 70% to 80% efficiency compared to a monocrystalline panel. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation builds the most efficient polycrystalline panels. Well,Mitsubishi has two world records for photoelectric conversion of efficiency in polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) cells in the year 2010. The cells are found by reducing resistive loss in a cell.

Another world record that Mitsubishi Electric has renewed for the third consecutive year is a 19.3% efficiency rating for the conversion of a polycrystalline silicon PV cell of 100cm or more, with a PV cell approximately 15cm x 15cm x 200cm. The rating is 0.2 % higher than the original record of the company of 19.1%.

Benefits Of Polycrystalline Solar Panels

1. Lowe Per Panel Cost is simple to produce and costs less manufacture. This makes them affordable for buyers with small to medium-sized roofs.

2. Durability and Longevity

The durability and longevity can be compared to monocrystalline, which is at least 25years.

3. Environmental Enhancements

Besides producing energy from the sun that helps reduce greenhouse gases and other environmental problems, some Polycrystalline Solar Module manufacturers also invent new technologies that eliminate expensive soldering making the panels more environmentally friendly.

4. Lower Electric Bills

Any solar system can probably lower the electric bill. Since the cost and the amount of electricity produced from a polycrystalline solar panel are less compared to the monocrystalline panel, the proper analysis should be done to find out the one that has a better payback over the time frame of your review.
