10 Foods That You Should Eat if You Have Arthritis

It is a class of diseases that causes pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints, and affects people of all ages and both genders. The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis ( caused by autoimmune disease). 

It is mandatory that you eat healthy — especially for your arthritis. If you don’t, you can worsen your joints in a big way. Of course, stretching, therapy, and lifestyle changes are supposed to be integrated into your life.

1. Garlic

Garlic is commonly used in Indian herbs and strong ayurvedic medicine. Research has shown that it has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce pain in the joints.  It might also decrease the chances of osteoarthritis. However, it is not fit to be consumed on a daily basis as it is strong medicine. Doing so might cause damage to your system.

2. Ginger

Ginger is also used as a common flavoring spice in tea, juices, soup, sweets, and curries. Studies show that it also contains anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing pain. However, more studies are required on humans to consolidate its effects. It can be consumed on a daily basis in either powdered or dried forms or in the aforementioned ways.

3. Broccoli

It is considered one of the healthiest foods for a reason. It contains sulforaphane, which might help reduce inflammation. It can be consumed on a daily basis and it is easily available almost everywhere. 

4. Walnuts 

They are considered to be one of the most nutrient-rich foods and contain anti-inflammatory compounds. They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which might also help reduce inflammation and other symptoms related to arthritis. They are available everywhere and can be easily consumed on a daily basis. 

5. Berries

They are loaded with lots of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. Its nutrient-dense nature and antioxidants give it anti-inflammatory properties. They are easily available in every region and can be consumed on a daily basis. Even research has shown that it decreases inflammation related to arthritis. 

6. Spinach

It is considered to be rich in antioxidants and kaempferol, which helps control the progression of osteoarthritis and alleviates inflammation. It is also full of other nutrients which makes it extremely beneficial for daily consumption.

7. Grapes

They are surplus in antioxidants and nutrients, and most importantly they have inflammatory properties. They also contain proanthocyanidin which also has positive effects on the patients of arthritis. 

8. Olive Oil

They are infamous for their anti-inflammatory properties. In a study, it was found that it decreases anti-inflammatory markers by a considerable margin. However, more research is required to consolidate its effects, but it is a healthy addition to your diet.

9. Oily fish 

  Fish like mackerel, salmon, sardines, and trout are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which have anti-inflammatory effects. They are also a great source of vitamin D, which is shown to have positive effects on rheumatoid arthritis. They are in fact great for controlling symptoms of arthritis.

10. Tart Cherry Juice 

It is a beverage derived from the fruit of the Prunus ceraceous tree. It is rich in nutrients and has a plethora of health benefits. One of which is the possibility of reducing the symptoms of arthritis. It can be consumed on a daily basis without any sweetener to derive maximum benefits.
