What is crash rated fencing and where it is used?

Crash rated fences are designed to withstand high impact. There may be an incidence of breach by force and such times the fence will stop the vehicle on the spot and will not suffer more than a few inches of the dent. The incident will very likely to damage the vehicle and any attempt of terrorist attached or gate-crashing will happen with the crash rated fence in place. Crash rates fences are given three ratings namely,

  • K4 rating is for a vehicle traveling 30mph
  • K8 rating is for a vehicle traveling 40mph
  • K12 rating is for a vehicle traveling 50mph.

K rating is for crash test certification and it is issued by DOS or Department of State to gates barriers, fences and bollards. It indicates the penetration of a vehicle traveling at the above speeds and making a perpendicular impact on the gate. The certificate actually measures the stopping power of the above barriers based on the speed and weight of the charging vehicle. A standard 15,000 lbs are given to K rating and the barriers will not allow any vehicle to get past the gate more than 36 inches. With increased anti-social activities like terrorist attack attempts, it is wise to install the K rated barriers at your establishment as it will avert a major tragedy.

Another protective barrier that is widely used is the heras fencing usually put around a construction site. It is installed essentially to foil attempts of pilferage. A Heras fence consists of several panels measuring 3.5-meter x 2 meters. The panels are fitted into a metal tube frame and slotted into the synthetic or concrete blocks to make long barriers around a construction site. The fencing is also used at concert sites and events to stop gate crashing. This fencing takes its name from the manufacturer Heras.

Why crimped wire mesh partitions are chosen?

Crimped Wire Mesh offers stout protection against impact and tearing. It is difficult to cut through the solid wire mesh and may need heavy-duty cutters working several minutes to make the cut off an inch or two. The fact that they make a great protective barrier against intrusion enables users to install them at factories, warehouses, and other places where a large number of sections and people are present. Crimped wire mesh is transparent hence it is easy to see what is happening inside of the partition by supervisors in a manufacturing unit. It offers great ventilation and allow copious amount of natural air to pass by. Visibility is tremendously increased hence are useful for large workspaces where less lighting will be needed and the power bill saved.
