Himanshu Verma and one other arrested for Insurance fraud

A person gets insurance done for his saving or can say to insured his future with some amount so that when in need he can get the amount. These days many people are being cheated with an insurance scam. So many cases are registered where people are cheated with the insurance plans or with fake insurance dealings.

Two persons from Kotkapura were arrested on Thursday for an insurance scam in which they duped a person of around Rs 3 lakh.

KotKapura senior superintendent of police (SSP) said that on Thursday they arrested Punjab-based Himanshu Verma and Anand Kumar while withdrawing money from the State bank of India (SBI) at Faridkot Road KotKpura.

According to the SSP, Atul Garg of Kotkapura complained to the police that in July he got a call from a person in Kotkapura who claimed that he had a cheque of Rs 3.6 lakh for the insurance policy which Garg had bought from Bajaj Allianz. The man asked Garg to deposit Rs 89,500 as tax at a bank account in SBI, Kotkapura. After doing as he was told, a few days later Garg got another call asking him to deposit the same amount again, failing which he would not get the cheque.

After Garg deposited the money, he again got a call from Mumbai asking him to deposit Rs 40,000 more. Garg then approached the district police.

After investigation, the police froze the account and on February 20, 2020, when Himansh Verma and Anand Kumar tried withdrawing money from the account, the police caught them.

It was found that the joint account was opened in the name of ABC Club Ludhiana and a total of Rs 41 lakh had been deposited of which Rs 32 lakh had been withdrawn.

The SSP said that the accused would be produced at the court to seek their police remand for further interrogation.
