Occupational Back Pain – How to Combat It

About 80% of our workforce admit to experiencing back pain at some point in their lives. A large part of our working population also suffers from back pain often but don’t do anything about their condition but go through it and sleep it off. And then the next working day, that vicious cycle continues.

If you are a sufferer of occupational back pain brought about by hours of sitting in front of a computer or doing back-breaking work, here are the things that you can do to combat it. Don’t just go for band-aid solutions like pain killers but incorporate these strategies in your life:

1. Try doing yoga in Coquitlam.

There are yoga poses that you can do to release tight muscles and reduce stress in the joints. When you do Yoga in Coquitlam BC regularly, you also effectively mobilize the joints that tend to become inflamed and sore due to your work. Yoga in Coquitlam also helps correct bad posture, which can also be a contributing factor to back pain and helps in strengthening the muscles to ensure it doesn’t become too susceptible to injuries.

Some of the poses you can do to relieve back pain and to prevent it from pestering you are child’s pose, supported fish, supported puppy pose, supine twists, and low lunge twist. You should join a class for yoga in Coquitlam BC such as Rasa Flow Yoga to learn the ropes in proper yoga postures and to have more guidance to avoid injuries.

2. Get a regular massage therapy.

Massage therapy should not just be a treat to give yourself. It should be a part of your life. Massage therapy helps in relaxing the muscles and getting rid of the tight nodules that can cause discomfort and pain.

You can also enjoy better blood circulation through massage therapy, which is helpful for people who sit all day. A sedentary lifestyle affects your circulation and can also make you more susceptible to random body aches and pains. Massage therapy can also improve the quality of your sleep.

3. Strengthen your core.

You can become more susceptible to back pain if you have a weak core. That is because there are no muscles that will support the upper part of your body. You can try doing planks, bridges, and crunches. You can also do activities like cycling and swimming to improve core strength.

It’s also important to make your work area more ergonomic. Back pain can happen easily if you have a bad posture brought about by a work area that is not conducive. Make sure your work table isn’t too high and that your wrists and shoulders are comfortable, especially when typing. Invest in ergonomic work tables and chairs that you can use for a long time.
