Top 3 Applications of Ceramic Capacitor

Posted by Alan on February 21st, 2020

Ceramic materials have superior electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties and can be used as capacitor dielectrics, circuit substrates, and packaging materials. Ceramic materials are materials that are made from oxides or other compounds and then fired at high temperatures near the melting temperature. It usually includes important processes such as raw material crushing, slurry preparation, blank forming, and high-temperature sintering. Ceramics is a complex polycrystalline and multiphase system, which is generally composed of crystalline phase, glass phase, gas phase, and phase boundary. The characteristics, composition, relative content, and distribution of these phases determine the basic properties of the ceramic.

Ceramic capacitors made of ceramic materials are also called ceramic dielectric capacitors or monolithic capacitors. Depending on the ceramic material, they can be divided into two types: low-frequency ceramic capacitors and high-frequency ceramic capacitors.

Application of ceramic capacitors

1.Military industry

Military MLCCs are used as basic electronic components in the aerospace, military mobile communications equipment, pocket military computers, weapon warhead control, and military signal monitoring, radar, artillery fuze, ships, weapon systems, and other military electronic equipment. With the digitization of a country’s defense equipment, the acceleration of the information construction process, and the strong domestic demand for the military industry market, the market for military high-reliability MLCCs is very promising. In 2009, the size of China's military MLCC product market was 750 million yuan, and by 2013 it had grown to 1.44 billion yuan, which has nearly doubled. It is expected that it will still be able to maintain a stable and high growth rate in the future. It is expected to be close to 3 billion yuan in 2019.

2.Industrial

The industrial capacitor market mainly includes system communication equipment, industrial control equipment, medical electronic equipment, automotive electronics, precision instruments, and petroleum exploration equipment. Industrial equipment is developing towards the trend of mechatronics and intelligence, and the application of electronic control, data analysis, and interface display are constantly increasing the proportion of informatization, which will provide a broader market prospect for industrial highly reliable MLCC products.

3.Consumer

The consumer market includes general consumer products and high-end consumer products. The former includes electronic products such as laptops, televisions, telephones, ordinary mobile phones, and ordinary digital cameras; the latter includes professional recording equipment, professional video equipment, and high-end smartphones. Compared with the demand for military and industrial MLCC products, consumer products have the largest market demand.

From a global perspective, Japanese manufacturers are leading the industry. Among the top ten MLCC manufacturers in the world, Japanese manufacturers account for more than 40% of the global market sales, mainly because Japanese manufacturers are leading other countries and regions in cutting-edge high-capacity products and ceramic powder technology.
