Ted blenkers - Marine Engineers

Marine engineers are responsible for designing, developing, controlling and maintaining the equipment and systems used in ships, oil facilities and marine oil plants. They specialize in marine engineering, naval engineering or industries located on the mainland.

Marine engineers play a very important role in shipbuilding and ship repair. They are responsible for designing, building, controlling and maintaining ships, and all systems and machinery used on ships and other maritime transport systems.

Marine engineers also use their knowledge to explore natural resources and generate energy such as oil and minerals that are located in the sea floor. They work on the development of new technologies that were not previously available to explore areas of the sea.

Increasingly, marine engineers have to find ways to use sea resources while preventing or minimizing environmental damage.

There are three main areas of maritime engineering: offshore engineering, naval engineering and the mainland engineering industries.

There are three main areas of maritime engineering: offshore engineering, naval engineering and the mainland engineering industries.

Offshore engineering involves the exploration of oil and mineral production. Engineers working on the high seas are involved in all aspects of this work.

They work closely with other specialists, such as geologists, to decide the best place to establish an offshore oil station, so that the exploitation is as profitable as possible and allows the maximum amount of natural resources to be extracted.

These engineers use high-tech systems to work in deep water, such as vehicles operated by remote control, to carry out exploration operations on the seabed.

Design, build and operate the fixed and mobile oil platforms and all their control systems. They can work in an office, using computer-aided design (CAD) technologies to design oil platforms as safe and efficient as possible.

They must decide what type of material is most appropriate for the construction of the installation, and overcome the problems that wind, waves, currents and the nature of the seabed may present.

Engineers specializing in high seas work must protect the environment, for example, by developing renewable energy sources, such as wind or tidal power. They are responsible for finding environmental and cost-effective solutions to problems such as the disposal of disused oil platforms.

Engineers working in the second specialty, naval engineering, are responsible for designing and manufacturing propulsion ship machinery and related equipment and systems. Naval engineers work on a wide variety of vessels, including container ships, passenger ships, pipeline ships, warships and submarines.

Naval engineers usually spend about four months at sea, followed by a two-month license. Its main task is to operate and maintain the machinery of propulsion ships. They also handle the electrical systems and electronic equipment of the vessel.

Naval engineers must maintain and repair ship services, such as air conditioning and passenger elevators. On refrigerated cargo ships, engineers may be responsible for the systems used to store products such as fruit and meat.

Naval engineers working for the navy work on aircraft carriers, frigates (warships), ships and ships of assault of mines and submarines anywhere in the world.

In industries located on the mainland, maritime engineers design and supervise the construction of new ships. They also participate closely in the new technologies used in modern ships.

Marine engineers working for transport companies may be responsible for the control and maintenance of a fleet of ships. They design and build machines and installations for new or existing ships.
