Kolkata and its food culture – Where emotion meets flavours

Be it street food or lavish dining at expensive restaurants, Kolkata serves flavours complimented by emotions. On the 5th of February, Kolkata celebrates the Times Food and Nightlife Awards with its best Food and Beverages Industries and the best restaurants in Kolkata for dining. Post this news, it has also come to notice that the Bengal Chamber of Commerce, commonly termed as BCC organizes a training workshop for the street food vendors that are supposed to be held on 22nd February 2020. 

The project is named as “Apish Parar Khabar” or the Dalhousie street food. As a part of their CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility, BCC aims to introduce the idea of food safety, sanitation, hygiene, environment, culinary skills and entrepreneurship to the street vendors to enhance their skills and way of earning.  Dalhousie known as the “Apish Para” in Bengali colloquial, is the place where street vendors stand the only source of food. Hence to promote the street food and to train the vendors into offering healthy servings, BCC has initiated such moves. 

By the above news, it is however clear that the City of Joy finds its happiness within its food. With numerous street food vendors expanding their business and is titled as some of the best restaurants in Kolkata, some yet love continuing his hierarchy of being a street food vendor.  

That being said, some of the renowned restaurants also leaps ahead and expands their business further by offering catering services in Kolkata for marriage, birthdays, get-togethers, etc. 

Street food and its variety

Kolkata holds a variety of street food, with different flavours, cuisine, etc. The dishes are further modified to enhance the taste, feel and experience altogether. Also, there are various bloggers that have reviewed Kolkata street food and have termed it to be one of the best cities offering a taste of different cuisine with a unique twist.  

For example, if you consider rolls, there is a wide range of variety that is available, such as –

Maximising the uniqueness, several restaurants also offer street food with added flavours and are served in an enticing surrounding, such as Chocolate Fuchka (street food variety – Fuchka) and Tandoori Chai/tea (street food variety – masala chai/tea). 

Furthermore, restaurants have taken a step ahead and splurged in offering the foodies flavours accompanied by surroundings that are different from all. The city also holds some of the best themed restaurants that one should never miss. Being inspired by the culture of the past, a fictional movie, or a situation, these themed restaurants vouch to take you to a different era that will hold a special place in your heart.

The taste, ambience, and service are how restaurants make you drool and hence is a must-visit if you belong to this city of joy or stopover. 

Nevertheless, the best restaurants in Kolkata keep their prices low to cater to the foodies alike. Thus, whether one is tight on his budget or has maximum to spare, one can always drop by and succumb to the unique and delectable flavours.
