FEMINIZED CHRONIC SEEDS VS REGULAR CANNABIS SEEDS

Posted by Andy David on February 25th, 2020

For a new cannabis grower, the task of visiting an online seed bank can be quite overwhelming. As a new cannabis grower, you need to be aware of a few terms before choosing the right seed and strain. Therefore, in this article, we will be understanding the difference between “feminized” and “regular” seeds and what will be the best for you.

Are there different cannabis sexes?

Yes, cannabis sexes can be of two different types- male and female. Though, there is no way to tell just by looking at the seed what the finished product would turn out to be. In other words, a regular seed has a 50% chance of being either male or female.

The female plants, in general, produce dense flowering buds that we usually prefer to consume. The males, in turn, produce flowers that cannot get a person high but contain pollens. When the female plants come in contact with these pollens, they shift their energy to creating seeds rather than fat juicy budding flowers.

How To Produce Feminized Cannabis seeds?

To produce a feminized seed, the breeder usually stresses a female plant into being a hermaphrodite. The result will be male flowers on a female plant which will produce pollens. Then these pollens on contact with the female flower will produce seeds that will be primarily female plants. During the germination of feminised chronic seeds, a grower needs to eradicate or remove all the signs of male plants.

If you are a new grower and looking forward to growing out all your seeds into flowering buds then feminised chronic seeds are by far the best choice for you. An added advantage of growing feminised chronic seeds is, they are one of the easiest and most sought after plants to grow. Plus, as the feminised chronic seeds are really expensive so once you start growing them, you will be relieved of shelling out your money to the online seed banks.

Then, why would anyone be interested in growing regular cannabis seeds?

Well, as a basic advantage if in case you germinate 10 regular cannabis seeds, then 5 amongst them will be males and other 5 female plants. These plants will have their own characteristics some will be more sativa dominant (taller, longer leaves, lighter color) while others may be more Indicia dominant (shorter, bushier, darker color and broader leaves).

On the other hand, cannabis purists’ state plants grown from regular seeds are relatively stronger. Some breeders keep these plants for decades but such is not the case with feminized cannabis plants.

In conclusion, if you are a new grower then you must rely on feminized seeds as they are easy to grow. While if you are looking forward to taking your growing to the next level then regular seeds might be a better option as though they are expensive, they are the best choice for professional breeders.
