Of all of the fine reasons to look for the perfect House For Sale In Croydon, one of the greatest is surely this south London borough’s famed diversity, as was more than demonstrated at the most recent running of two of the locality’s biggest annual events.

The Sutton & Croydon Guardian reported that a record 22,000 people headed to Wandle Park for the Croydon PrideFest and Mela over the weekend of Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, in another signal that the borough remains very much on the up.

“Our biggest, best and most inclusive event ever”

Croydon PrideFest took place on the Saturday, with the estimated 10,000 attendees effectively doubling last year’s numbers. In addition, about 1,000 people joined the parade through the town centre.

Organisers hailed the headline acts – including British rapper Lady Leshurr and Soju from the US hit TV series RuPaul’s Drag Race – as key factors behind the event’s success.

Croydon Pride’s Mark Watson commented: “When we set up Croydon PrideFest we knew we wanted to have a parade through the town that anyone could join and a festival that was as inclusive as possible.

“This year was our biggest, best and most inclusive event ever. The response to the town centre parade was fantastically positive and shows that Croydon is London’s most inclusive and welcoming borough.”

The Mela once again proved a major hit

The following day, Croydon Mela returned to Wandle Park for the third year in celebration of the culture of the borough’s diverse Asian communities, drawing an estimated 12,000 people.

The event once again presented a host of music, dance, food, family fun and entertainment, with headliners on the main stage including Apache Indian, DJ Ritu and Najma Akhtar, alongside local groups.

ChetnaKapacee, one of the three Croydon women who programmed the event, observed: “It was fantastic to be able to celebrate the diverse south Asian communities of Croydon across the different stages and activities at the mela.

“It was a joy to see so many people of all backgrounds and ages having a great time.”
