Changing laws for changing times - New driving laws in the Uk

Posted by Paul Dinkel on March 3rd, 2020

In addition to our traffic laws, there are several subsets of federal regulations concerning our vehicles and their maintenance for improved road safety. As the year 2020 unfolds, it carries with itself some of the more integrated and enhanced models of these road laws governing the proper sustainability of our vehicles.

The purpose of these driving laws discussed at Brexit summit is to provide overall safety to both the drivers and the road’s passive users. Moreover, the increasing pollution due to vehicle’s excessive carbon emission is another factor resulting in the quick implementation of these laws from January 1, 2020. The violation of these laws may affect your MOT scores as well.

Here are some brief points discussed under the newly introduced driving laws:

Low Emission Rules

The central London was earlier declared Ultra Low Emission Zone which is now applicable on the whole of the capital. Following a similar fashion, several places such as Birmingham, Leeds and almost the whole of the country would be following the ULEZ rule.

According to the new law, a driver has to pay charges if he is found violating the regulations of vehicle-emission in these zones. The ban on the usage of diesel fuel is also covered under this. And vehicles who failed their MOTs due to excessive noise and carbon pollutant emission must also get their cars checked at trusted service sources for MOT Cambridge.

Car Tax

The new excise duty on new vehicles is going up by 5 pounds due to the inflation earlier in 2019. But the car owners with higher emission rates are bound to pay an additional 15 pounds and those having diesel vehicles are charged with extra taxes.

First-year tax is also increased by 65 pounds for new car owners.

Smart Motorways

Drivers who, from January 1, are seen driving close to the area marked with a red ‘X’ mark are liable to pay fine and will be charged accordingly.

The legislation is looking forward to adding more refugee camps bordering near the smart motorways.

Speed Assistance

Modern cars are expected to have a pre-installed system checking up their speed and regulating them as per the limits. The law further says that smart rear cameras would also be installed to assist drivers in understanding road signals and signboards.

Permits and Green Cards for the Drivers

The summit has also informed British netizens that their current licence would be of no use unless on the continent. If you are planning a vacation outside, you are expected to apply for the proper paperwork beforehand from the post-office at the cost of 5.50 pounds.

The foreign drivers on holiday are also asked to take green cards for driving in the EU and EEA. They can easily access this paperwork through their insurance provider before a month from travelling.

Parking Surcharges and Legislation

Pavement parking has been banned in London since 1974. Now, the law stands true for other parts of England as well.

Hearing several cases of frauds at the hands of several fraudulent parking companies, the legislation and RAC is planning to curb their actions as well. The legislation is planning to unify the parking custom throughout the UK, free of unscrupulous parking agencies.

There is a new idea proposed regarding the usage of parking tickets as well, which is expected to be cleared soon.
