Defining the devops culture by yourself is already hard enough. Not to mention introducing this to your company team. It has never been easy to implement the devops culture in your organization because it has things to do with the cultural transformation. In any company, regardless of the niche differences, cultural transformation can also lead to cultural shocks.

But you will want to prevent anything bad from happening. You must get all the feet together back to the main vision and mission of your company. In many companies, working and collaborating with the team is to provide great value to the customers.

The first and foremost common problem that you will notice is that the developers and operations won’t come in synergy. The reason is simple. The Developers want to maximize the features. Meanwhile, the operations are more focused on the stability of the overall system.

If the DevOps team does not bridge this matter, it will have a direct impact on the software and apps overall quality. If you are a person in charge, it is important to communicate through all the members to promote the collaboration that does not betray the vision of the company.

Rather than forcing people who don’t want to cooperate, it is much better to focus on finding partners who are fond of devops culture and work with them to influence others who still need time and space to adapt. To facilitate effective collaboration, it does not hurt to set up an effective communication between your teams. Statistics showed that most ruined companies failed because they seldom host face-to-face discussions. We cannot overlook the fact that the DevOps is vibrant and dynamic. Therefore, the personal approach is important to build such a collaborative devops culture in the environment.

Not to mention that the upper management might have problems with the devops culture implementation. If the top executives are filled with baby boomers, it can be harder to convince them about the devops culture. The challenge will be more significant if the upper line people involved in the project do not buy with the culture. It is not exaggerating to say that you will need to have strong evangelists to introduce devops culture and convince other people to be accepted with these new things.

Last but not least, consider to focus on the competencies rather than roles. Roles are limited and stiff. But the competencies are more flexible and adaptive. The devops culture is linked with scalability. Therefore, you must make sure that everybody in your team is ready for upgrading.
