Though there are a lot of amazing things to do in Placerville, from sightseeing to wine tasting to hiking, museums and more, gold tours are quite popular in this region and often synonymous with Placerville tourism. Hangtown's Gold Bug Park

During the Gold Rush, one of the most significant events that have ever taken place in the American history, Placerville was the seat of law and order where criminals used to meet with swift justice often at the end of a rope. This is where the name “Hangtown” comes from. Suitable for adults, seniors, children and people with limited access needs, Hangtown's Gold Bug Park is popular for guided gold rush tours and gem panning—a fun alternative to traditional gold panning. Didn’t bring the pain? No issues! Arrangements can be made at Hattie's Gift Shop, which is open to provide a one-of-a-kind memento to panning enthusiasts. Explore stamp mill presentations, mineral displays, and continuous blacksmith demonstrations.
