Proper care of the Afro-American wig is very important if you want your wig to look good for a long time. Of course, proper wig care depends on what type of wig you have - if you have or not a synthetic wig, a wig of human hair, dreadlocks wig, etc.

How to wash a wig?

  1. Wash your wig used after about 8-12 times. In truth, however, you may go longer without washing, or may need to wash long before - this depends on the humidity and air quality. And, for example, if you go to a smoke-and bar, you may want to wash the smoke smell of your hair at night, even if you washed a few days only! Be your own judge.
  2. Use a towel to gently dry your wig dry - once again, be gentle! Do not wring your wig!
  3. Now add a spray conditioner.
  4. Allow your wig to dry. One can use a Styrofoam head, but could stretch the cover. You may, however, prefer to set his wig on top of something like a vase or a bottle of hairspray covered with a towel.
  5. Do not brush your wig unless it is completely dry.
  6. Do not let your wig out under direct sunlight to dry.
  7. If you decide to cut your wig, make sure you are using it for best results.
  8. When not using the wig, leave a wig stand so that it can maintain its form and not get caught.
  9. A traveling, take your wig on a wig box - you do not want flattens.
  10. To wash the wig:
  • Use a wig brush to brush your wig.
  • Be sure to use a wig shampoo. It is important that you do not use regular shampoo, which can damage your wig.
  • Fill a sink with cold or lukewarm water and add the wig shampoo (usually about a tablespoon ... read the shampoo bottle for precise instructions).
  • Put your wig in the water and rinse gently around - it's good! Do this for about a minute.
  • Rinse wig current cold water to rinse thoroughly.

Wig care for African American synthetic hair does not include the use of a hair dryer or heat sources such as curling styling - these could actually melt and their synthetic hair frizz. Use only your fingers or comb wig / wig brush to comb. Also make sure you keep your wig away from excessive heat and open oven doors, fireplaces and barbecues.

In addition, most synthetic wigs should not be used in a pool unless otherwise indicated. It is also very important that you do not use brushes for human hair - can stretch synthetic hairs, damage or frizz them or break them. And not about color or bleach your wig.
