Anabolic Steroids: Side Effects

Before reading the article on - ANABOLIC STEROIDS: SIDE EFFECTS - make sure you are aware of the side effects and legal repercussions deriving from the use of anabolic steroids (regulated by the anti-doping law 14 December 2000, n.376 and subsequent updates, and by the law on the regulation of drugs DPR 9 October 1990, n.309 and subsequent updates)

Edited by Doctor Nicola Sacchi - Author of the book: Drugs and doping in sport -

For those who think that some anabolic has no side effects

Many users of anabolic steroids live in the absolute belief that "some injection" does not hurt, that it is enough not to overdo it to avoid side effects, that there are more dangerous products and others instead that almost do not present any risk, etc. etc. The idea of the concept of "moderate use" is often supported by some so-called doping experts who publish "instructions for use", praising the ability to be able to control the side effects of anabolic steroids.

This erroneous idea that moderate use - if moderate one can speak when using supraphysiological and super-therapeutic doses of substances born for the treatment of certain pathologies, without any medical motivation (since chemicals created to treat certain ailments are used only for increasing your muscle mass ) - be totally safe, often determines the use of anabolic steroids by people unaware of what they are really doing with their body.

Beyond popular beliefs, an interesting scientific study demonstrates how ONE INJECTION OF 100 MG OF NANDROLONE REDUCES THE ENDOGENIC PRODUCTION OF TESTOSTERONE TO THE SIZE TO BRING THE HEMATIC LEVELS OF THE SAME TO ONE-QUARTER OF THE NORMAL. In other words, it reduces natural testosterone production by 75%, bringing blood levels from 20 nM to 5 nM.

The study in question, not so new since it is from 1997, is:

Minto CF, Howe C, Wishart S, Conway AJ, Handelsman DJ.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of nandrolone esters in oil vehicle: effects of ester, injection site, and injection volume.

J Pharmacol Exp Ther. 1997 Apr; 281 (1): 93-102.

Dr Minto and colleagues examine a sample of subjects who are administered a 100 mg dose of nandrolone with two different forms of esterification (phenylpropionate and decanoate). Esterification determines the release times of the substance, which to become active must be separated from the molecule to which it is esterified. Basically, the different esterification determines the different duration of action of the drug. In addition, the study examines how it can change the action of nandrolone depending on the muscle in which it is injected.

The value examined in the study is the blood concentration of testosterone, which, following the injection, drops drastically and then rises again after more than 20 days.

The reported study also analyzes other data not important for the purposes of this article, which therefore will not be mentioned.

The graph below shows the trend of blood testosterone concentration in the days following the injection.

the graph shows how ONE INJECTION of 100 mg of nandrolone alters blood testosterone levels for about 20/25 days; it is also shown how this value changes according to the type of ester (phenylpropionate or decanoate) and the injection site (Minto).

Basically the different esterifications determine a recovery of the different testosterone blood levels , in fact, the phenylpropionate, which releases more quickly the nandrolone, determines a faster recovery. While the different injection sites lead to a very similar testosterone fluctuation.

The fundamental fact to reflect on remains the fact that the testosterone produced by the body drops dramatically in 3/4 days and remains at a quarter of the level preceding the injection for another 10/20 days. Another perhaps even more interesting fact is that to restore testosterone levels to normal, it is necessary to pass about 20/25 days from the moment of injection. And all this after just one 100 mg injection of nandrolone, not a 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 or 12-week cycle of a stack of different anabolics, but only after one injection!

This is what really happens when using steroids.

These indications are for informational purposes only and are NOT intended in any way to replace a doctor's opinion or to encourage the use of anabolic steroids , let alone promote specific commercial products, possibly indicated for information purposes only. The use of anabolic steroids outside the medical field is a dangerous and aberrant practice from which we deviate by SENSING AND DISCOURING it in the most absolute way. In this regard, see the list of generic side effects related to anabolic steroids or what is published at the bottom of the article.

Any posology and methods of use indicated with regard to use in sports or aesthetics do NOT have the value of specific advice; they intend to provide general information in line with what is disseminated by scientific publications on the subject (see bibliography or other texts on doping), to limit phenomena of abuse, it being understood that there is no safe and free dosage or combination of drugs of side effects. For these reasons, the author declines all responsibility for damages, claims or losses, direct or indirect, deriving from the use of this information.

Some of the most common side effects you may experience using Anabolic Steroids

Clinical case: severe acne conglobated induced by androgenic anabolic steroids.

  1. A) The patient at the time of his ideal body image; the 21-year-old bodybuilder has had a history of abuse of androgenic anabolic steroids. B) Severe conglobated acne; lesions include papules , pustules , abscesses and deep ulcerations. C) Patient after six weeks of antiseptic antibiotic therapy (note the permanent scarring results). Gynecomastia, a medical term indicating the abnormal growth of breast tissue in humans (image on the side), is another macroscopic side effect of anabolic steroids. If not addressed promptly with appropriate drug therapy, this condition is almost irreversible; the only valid solution is represented by a specific surgical intervention.

In genetically predisposed subjects, androgenetic alopecia ("hair loss) and excessive growth of body hair represent further unwanted macroscopic effects of these substances.

Other side effects of anabolic steroids include: hypertension, temporary infertility in men, testicular atrophy (shrinkage), hypertrichosis and virilism (in women, hair growth and male sexual characteristics), menstrual changes, severe developmental abnormalities fetal (if taken during pregnancy), growth blocking (if taken during adolescence), liver dysfunction, increased cardiovascular risk, increased aggressiveness and anger outbursts up to true pictures of psychosis and physical dependence in case of prolonged use (homicidal thoughts and attitudes while taking, suicidal thoughts and attitudes during abstinence). The psychophysical dependence on these substances means that even starting a low dose intake cycle to limit possible side effects, the user - however informed and "conscientious" - could fall into a vicious circle for which, as the doses and intake times increase, the side effects would become more and more serious and evident up to the extreme cases, for this reason only apparently "exaggerated", highlighted in the photos. as the doses and intake times increase, the side effects would become more and more serious and evident up to the extreme cases, for this reason only apparently "exaggerated", highlighted in the photos. as the doses and intake times increase, the side effects would become more and more serious and evident up to the extreme cases, for this reason only apparently "exaggerated", highlighted in the photos.
