The uncertainty looms over IPL 2020 under the coronavirus threat. The number of coronavirus cases is increasing in this country which might affected the Indian Premier League this year.

What Government says

The 13th edition of Indian Premier League is scheduled to begin on March 29 2020. But the ongoing coronavirus threat seems to have affect the future of the league. The Maharashtra Health Ministry and the Karnataka Government already showed their concerns over same. They mentioned how they might not be able to allow venue for IPL matches during this time. In fact the Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday said that the Government either can postpone the IPL 2020 matches or limit them to TV audience. He further suggested that in view of the coronavirus situation in the state these are the two options the authority has.

While giving his statement Tope said that the state cabinet discussed the related issue of coronavirus and IPL matches. He then clarified, "After discussion, we have come to two options: either to postpone matches or to have matches without selling tickets."  On the same day two persons from Mumbai tested positive for coronavirus and which increased the number of cases in Maharashtra to seven. Tope during his conversation with reporter although said that there are no plans of giving holiday to schools in the state as of now.

Dhoni’s comeback in doubts

On the other hand, the state Government sources said that final decision would be take soon but added, “One thing is sure that there will be no sale of tickets.” The edition of the league is set to begin with the opener between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede stadium.

With a lot of things as usual, this IPL is extra attractive to the cricket fans as MS Dhoni will be playing cricket after July 2019. If the situation does not get better and IPL needs to be postponed, Dhoni’s cricket future will be in doubts too.
