Cleaning Chores to Add to Your Fall Cleaning

Posted by Cleaning Book London on March 15th, 2020

To every clean freak, when it gets cold outside, it is time for a fall cleaning. Autumn is the right time to sanitise your home and get it ready for the cold winter instead of procrastinating till spring comes. Many people wash the windows, sweep out the patio, flip the mattresses and do many many more chores. However, if you do want to feel even more productive, here you will find more additional chores to add to your autumn cleaning checklist.

1. Light Switches

With autumn comes flu season, too, unfortunately. When cleaning, many people forget about light switches even though they are some of the most germ-infested surfaces in the house. As soon as autumn comes, make sure to spray the light switches with a disinfectant or wipe them down at least once a week.

2. Remotes

The remote control is one of the dirtiest items in the household. Wipe the remote all over to be sure that it is germ-free and clean. The same goes for the video game consoles.

3. Door Handles and Knobs

Another germ-infested item in a house that people often forget to clean is the doorknob. Bathroom doors, closet doors, back doors, just leave no knob or handle unclean. The same goes for the button on the toilet and fridge handle. Actually, there is no need to wait for the fall or spring cleaning because the surfaces we touch daily have to be cleaned on a regular basis.

4. Kitchen Appliances

Be sure that every drawer and cabinet is empty and then clean it out. Wipe down every light fixture and scrub clean every appliance. Do not forget to deep clean the oven, microwave, tea kettle and coffee maker, too. Just because you fill the pitchers and pots with clean water when you brew your drinks does not actually mean that they are clean. Hand wash those appliances with soapy water and scrub out the pitchers.

5. Fridge Deep Cleaning

Do you often wipe down the inside of the refrigerator? Empty the fridge and wipe it thoroughly down. Do not forget to wipe down the bottom, too, because many of the spillages and spills drip down from between the trays and shelves. Take your time to clean the cobwebs off of the wall behind the fridge, too. To keep it from getting clogged, clean off the vent at the bottom.

It is also expected to defrost the freezer at least once a year.

6. Shower Curtains

While you are pulling down the curtains to clean the windows, you may take down the shower curtain, too. Do you remember when was the last time you threw it in the washing machine? If you do not, then it is high time for you to run it through hot water to disinfect. While the shower curtain is taken down, clean the tub, too.

7. Keys, Purse and Wallet

How often do you clean the items you carry around every day? Did you know that the inside of your wallet and purse is a home to bacterial contaminants? Remember to give your wallet, purse and keys a good wipe down with some disinfectant.

8. Laundry Baskets, Dryers and Washers

Many people think that it is not necessary to wash the towels when you are supposed to be clean when using them. However, it is necessary. The same goes for dryers and washers.

As laundry bins and baskets hold dirty and clean clothes, it is necessary to wipe them down regularly. The same mentality should be used when it comes to dryers and washers. To disinfect the inside of the washer, run a cup of vinegar through the hot water cycle and then use a towel to wipe it down. When speaking about the dryer, first remove the vent along with any lint that has become clogged. Rinse off the lint trap and make sure it dries off before you reinsert it.
