5 Factors To Consider While Selecting a Mechanical Pressure Switch

Are you looking for mechanical switches to automatically supervise the control systems in your factory? This blog will tell you about the factors to consider while selecting a mechanical pressure switch. Standard unit of these pressure switches provide at least 1 million switching cycles.

Working of a mechanical pressure switch

The pressure of a fluid is converted into a mechanical movement with the help of a mechanical pressure switch. These switches consist of a diaphragm that opens or closes a circuit depending on the rise or drop in pressure. Whenever the pressure increases, it is transferred to a micro switch. The micro switch point will snap open to open the circuit or snap close to close it.

Factors to consider while selecting a mechanical pressure switch

While selecting a mechanical switch, you should be careful so that the switch performs efficiently and lasts for a long time. Here are the factors that you should take into account:

1. Medium and temperature: You should consider the medium and temperature of your application while selecting the material of mechanical pressure switch. Generally the following materials are used to make the different parts of switch- galvanized or stainless steel are used to make the case and the process connections, nitrile butadiene rubber is used to make diaphragm while working with hydraulic oil while ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber is used when the medium is water.

2. Pressure: For vaccum and low pressure applications, you can use diaphragms as a sensor material. On the other hand, pistons made of stainless steel work well for high pressure applications.

3. Switch-point adjustment: You can adjust the switchpoint at the factory or on site. Moreover, it is better to go for adjustable switch-point when the temperature and pressure conditions change on a regular interval.

4. Hysteresis: Switch reset is determined by hysteresis. The function remain active for a long time, when the hysteresis value is too long. Whereas, when the value of reset is short, the function will bounce between states.

5. Switching function: Mechanical switches can work as normally open upon reaching the switch point. And, operate as normally closed upon reaching the preset point.

Moreover, you should also consider other factors like electrical current and voltage rating, weather protection, resistance to vibration and shock etc while choosing a mechanical switch. You can easily buy heavy duty mechanical pressure switch online at an affordable price.
