Coronavirus has affected not only people’s lives but also the sports events across the globe which also included the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Saturday said that he is hopeful of the COVID-19 pandemic will decreased soon and a deferred IPL can be played with all the necessary health precautions in place as well.

BCCI has pushed back the start date of the IPL 2020 from March 29 to April 15. After that, the franchise owners had a meeting before the event's Governing Council meet and discuss over the matter.

"Wonderful to meet all the Franchise owners 'off the field' so to say. The meeting by @Bcci and @ipl was to reiterate what all of us feel...safety first of the spectators, players management & cities we play in. All directives of the health agencies & govt to be followed..," Khan tweeted.

"Hope the spread of the virus subsides & the show can go on. BCCI & team owners in consultation with the govt will keep a close watch & decide the way fwd in the health interest of ever1. Lovely 2 meet every1 & then sanitise ourselves repeatedly," he further added.

However, if the tournament takes place, the IPL is expected to be played without any spectators to ensure the notice what the government has given to avoid large gatherings in view of the dangerous virus, which has already taken more than 5,000 deaths in the world.

In India, over 80 people have been reported positive so far and two people have died already because of the coronavirus outbreak. Due to this, the international series like India versus South Africa and New Zealand versus Australia have been cancelled. Along with this, England versus Sri Lanka series too has been postponed for the time being.
