Konark Bureau: The Supreme Court today issued a notice to Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Assembly Speaker NP Prajapati following a petition filed by the BJP over the issue of majority evidence in the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Justices DY Chandrachud and Hemant Gupta will hear the case.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Laljiji Tandon on Monday directed Chief Minister Kamal Nath to prove his majority, while Bachchupati adjourned the assembly for 10 days. After a brief hiatus, Bachchupati N.P., citing health reasons for the coronavirus infection. Prajapati had adjourned the assembly for 10 days until the 26th of next month. Four BJP legislators, including former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, challenged Bachchan's decision and went to the Supreme Court.

Shivraj alleged that the Kamal Nath government was afraid to prove its majority and was deliberately trying to delay the process. The trial is set to begin on Wednesday.

Shortly after Bachchupati adjourned the assembly, Madhya Pradesh Governor Laljiji Tandon had written to Chief Minister Kamal Nath to prove his majority in the assembly by Tuesday.
Notably, 22 Congress MLAs from Madhya Pradesh have tendered their resignations to the Governor.
