How to prepare your taxi for winter

Winter is definitely the most difficult season for most drivers. Fog, heavy rain, high winds, and ice and snow are some of the problems motorists face. If you are a taxi driver, then you know the importance of preparing for the season, especially since you will be helping customers to travel from one point to another no matter how bad the roads are in the given area. Unfortunately, this is the season when most car accidents happen and Black to Gatwick is definitely the most important thing to keep you covered for the unexpected.

But in addition to ensuring that your taxi insurance policy is valid and valuable in terms of coverage, there are a few other things you can do to make sure your taxi stays ready for the tough days ahead.

Windows and windshield

Low sun with a combination of heavy rain can be dangerous when driving. It is important that you continue cleaning the cab windows and windshield; not only outside, but also inside to improve visibility. If you must use a cleaner, make sure it's designed for your car glass. Dip a piece of tissue in a clean screenwash additive and wipe the edges of the wiper blade to minimize staining. Keeping them propped up at night is also helpful to minimize the chances of them sticking to the screen.

Lights

The last thing you want is low light in heavy rain, snow, or even during the day. Visibility is still very important and this means that you need to make sure that the exterior lights of the taxi are clean and working properly. If necessary, replace closed bulbs or bulbs that are not working as they should. You can replace it yourself or get help from a garage service center.

Hood

What is under your hood is what should matter. To get started, verify that the coolant reservoir remains at the correct levels and consider mixing it with a solution of antifreeze and water. The concentration of antifreeze you have in the cooling system must also be adequate enough to ensure that the battery terminals are not corroded and tight to avoid the frustrating dead batteries common in winter. If necessary, replace the taxi battery in time. Avoid turning on the fan and headlights unless the engine is running to save battery power.

Tires

The pressure should be checked every week, including that of the spare tire. It is also very important that you check the pressure before you board or choose your client just to avoid problems on the way. Cab tires should have good grip on wet roads, so make sure the tread depth is adequate. If you are confident that you will be driving on snowy roads, then investing in winter tires or even snow socks is excellent and will come in handy.
