Snacks-for-Kids

Decreasing or removing food from your daily diet can be a real challenge. It is so easy to think of a meal when you do not need to care about what you eat. But once you embark on a strict (or strictish) regimen then you find yourself using a lot of energy coming up with ideas for meals.

Add kids to that equation and things can get very difficult at times.

Difficulties For Diets And Kids

The biggest problem with many children is that they can be incredibly picky eaters, sticking to 2 to 3 favorite meals and not wanting to be tempted away.

So, when you come along with your ‘crazy’ new diet, they can get a little freaked out.

So what can we do? Well, luckily these days there are so many very tasty snacks that are also super healthy and nutritious.  Which foods are they? Read along with us.

Finding new ideas and tasty recipes is no longer a chore. If you search for Healthy vegan food for picky eaters” on Google you will get some great results.

However, you will probably see completely differing views on snacks … which are truly healthy and which are just ‘packaged’ that way.

Where Are The Tasty Snacks At?

We have spent many, many months and years of trial and error so that you don’t need to. We have found some great snack sites. One of the best is Dr Praeger’s. They have an extensive line of snacks aimed at kids (more specifically their parents).

They have a whole section dedicated to kids food and so many recipes (you do not have to use only Dr Praegers ingredients for many). There are some dinosaur shaped snacks that will grab your lkittle ones attention enough to get them to eat them.

Dr. Praeger’s Sweet Potato Littles

Dietary Req: Soy Free, Gluten-Free

Ingredients: Sweet Potatoes, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Potato Flakes, Egg Whites, Light Brown Sugar (Sugar, Molasses), Arrowroot Powder, Sea Salt

 Contains: Eggs

Sweet Potato Littles seemed like a tasty option for me … but what about for kids. When it comes to potatoes kids mostly believe that they should only come salty … and preferably sliced into thin strips.

They have done nutrition at school though so they were at least willing to try something different.

Armed with a toaster oven you will have endless supplies of LIttles coming out and wafting through the house keeping the kids mouth’s watering through the day. Be aware that sweet potatoes are sweet so they have more sugar than regular potatoes.

Dr. Praeger’s Broccoli Littles

Dietary Req: Soy Free, Gluten-Free

Ingredients: Broccoli, Potatoes, Onions, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Potato Flakes, Egg Whites, Arrowroot Powder, Sea Salt, Garlic

Contains: Eggs

These Littles contain eggs so we are halfway there when it comes to getting kids onboard.  Broccoli is a super food. Rich in nutrition.

The kids loved them, but would still have preferred a KFC if they were truthful, but halfway there. Nobody died without their regular snacks.

Dr. Praeger’s Spinach Littles

 Dietary Req: Soy Free, Gluten-Free

Ingredients: Spinach, Potatoes, Onions, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Potato Flakes, Egg Whites, Arrowroot Powder, Sea Salt, Garlic

Contains: Eggs

Thank God for Popeye … he opened up many a child to the idea that Spinach is good for you and will help to make you strong. So, spinach does not go down as badly as it could because of Saint Popeye.

If only there was a Popeye for ALL the vegetables.

A word of warning though .. these are quite green, which is probably for the adults to ‘know’ they are stuffed with spinach and goodness, but the kids can be so easily put off. Mine tucked in nonetheless.

The Crunch

So, now there is no need to worry about stuffing the faces of little ones with healthy options. Introduce your kids to the broccoli and the sweet potato Littles first. Once they are used to vegetable snacks they can move on to Kale … imagine that?
