Writing an essay requires several prerequisites. The expected skills of authors are to develop a text with logical, coherent ideas that can convince the editor. In an article, the proofreader expects the candidate to be able to persuade him with clear text and specific examples. Writing an essay is not an easy test and therefore requires special attention to be successful. How to successfully write an essay?

Prepare the ground and take your time

Writing an essay requires creativity, specific skills and competences. For writing your essay, the advice is to read the subject several times to try to understand it. The careful reading of the item allows the candidate to know the instructions and to identify all the information that would enable him to see if he should base the writing of his text on these observations or his personal experiences. The second tip is to ask for more precise information about the type of book to write if you are unsure whether you are dealing with persuasive or argumentative writing. Rush should be avoided when writing an essay. Indeed, the author must take his time to organize his ideas well and be able to produce a coherent text.

Examine the rhetoric

Persuasive essays, like all other texts, have their specific rhetoric. Indeed, the quality of the book and the culture of the author are essential to pass your essay. The author of the book must research to write a clear text with examples and specific advice. In addition to the quality of the writing, a persuasive essay aims to convince the reader. The use of rhetorical figures is advised when writing an essay. This allows you to satisfy your reader and above all to show him that you have a good command of the general rules of a persuasive essay. The author must produce a text with tangible evidence.

Argument test

The objective is to develop a personal thesis that answers the subject and your problem.

  • The theme is identified in the proposed subject; it is more or less targeted: society, ecology, trade, culture, fair trade, internet, television, equal opportunities.
  • The issue questions this theme: it is your approach, your "angle of attack".
  • Your thesis answers your problem.

In your argument, unlike the synthesis of documents, you are asked to give your opinion, always with nuance. To do this, you should preferably follow the following steps:

 REFLECT

The first thing is to read the subject well. A shred of evidence? Not that much!

"Your favorite magazine wonders about the use of bikes in the city: is it a passing fashion or a sustainable phenomenon promised to a great future? You participate in the forum of the site to express your opinion. You will write a clear and structured text of around 250 words. "

Theme: means of transport in the city.

Reformulated problem: how can the bicycle coexist today with other means of transport?

It's up to you to take a stand, to choose ONE point of view to convince your reader.

PREPARE YOUR ARGUMENTS

Let us admit that we have opted for the point of view of defending the use of bicycles in the city. It is desirable to build your argued essay around a few arguments:

  • Cycling in town is ecological.
  • Cycling in the city is right for your health.
  • Cycling in the city is economical.
  • Cycling in the city is the future.

The goal is not to offer ALL the arguments, but to identify 3 or 4 and illustrate those using examples from your experience, your reading, your knowledge of current events.

WRITE

  • Respect the gentle formulas (especially for the letter).
  • Introduction (a catchphrase and the reformulated problem).
  • Development structured around your main arguments (around 200 words) without forgetting the logical connectors.
  • Conclusion: to reaffirm your point of view.
