The year 2020 is expected to bring fresher trends within the travel industry. These trends will influence the change in the way people holiday. Last year, many factors influenced the travel industry such as changing economy, climate change, and various other issues. However, one thing that never changed is the desire of people to travel and explore new places. To cater to these upcoming trends, many of the travel tour companies in Nigeria are preparing themselves for these changes.

Some of the trends that will shape the industry in the upcoming year are as follows:

Trends in the Travel Industry:

Holidays more like Holidaygraphy:

The digital age is dominating us and it is largely shaping the travel industry. For travelers, it becomes natural to click pictures to have memories and also to share it with others. Holidaygraphy is exactly that and involves hiring a professional photographer that will get all those candid pictures with perfect lighting and frame. This trend will further become more popular among young travelers.

Traveling for events, sports, and music festivals:

Traveling for events has been a trend among the millennials especially for Music. It constitutes a major amount of the travel population. Music tourism is becoming more and more appealing to the youth of the world. Some of the famous music festivals are Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Summerfest. India is also hosting music fests such as the Sunburn, Ziro festival, The hornbill music fest, etc. Events such as sports are also indulging people to travel places. This trend is becoming a buzzing phenomenon among the new age travelers.

Vegan Hotels:

The number of people choosing to go vegan is increasing and with that their demands for hotels that serve their choice of food are also increasing. The whole vegan thing will affect the destinations and hotels that people would prefer. This trend is likely to get increased in the coming year and that will mold the travel industry. Tours and travel agency in Nigeria is likely to search for more such hotels in different countries to include in their tour packages.

The concept of ‘Flight Shame’:

The speech of a child that went viral and made everyone think about climate change has made people question the choices they make. Great Thunberg, an activist has inspired many people to worry about climate change. This has made them look for things that provide less harm to the environment. This has given birth to the concept of ‘Flight Shame’ that translates to thinking more carefully about how often and where they fly to. As a result, this will witness many people turning to trains instead of planes.

Under-tourism:

Under-tourism is a concept where travelers prefer places that are undiscovered and not so popular. They will prefer places that are less popular as compared to conventional, over-crowded, and mainstream destinations. They will look for alternatives that can give them similar experiences but are not too popular or crowded. Some of the best tour operators in Lagos are making such tour packages of less traveled yet beautiful places.

These trends will affect the travel choices of people and will mold the travel industry this year.
