How to Compare Documents in Google Docs

Google Docs is a web-based word processing tool that is available to users for free. It provides various tools for its users for editing and customizing various things within the file. The most prominent one is the comparison by analyzing the revision history data. It works as an Office suite provided by Google under the services of Google Drive that contains Google Slides, Sheets, and various presentation programs. This program is available as a web application, Android, iOS, Windows, etc. This web-enabled application enables the users to generate and edit files online that can be collaborated with other consumers in real-time.

Google Docs is supported by several web browsers such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, MS Edge, etc. One can compare two different documents in Google Docs. Abide by these instructions to compare two files in Google Docs in a straightforward manner:

  • First and foremost, launch any of your preferred web browsers.
  • Then, visit the home page of Google Docs.
  • Now, search for an already existing document that you wish to select for the comparison.
  • When the file executes, hit the section “Tools” and move forward.
  • Next, press the option “Compare Document” to initiate the comparison procedure.
  • After that, a mini prompt window will expand up and request you to choose the second file for comparison against the primary document.
  • Then, hit the option “My Driver” to expand the file selector tool.
  • Go to the file that you wish to select for this process.
  • Then, hit the “Open” tab to select your document.
  • Navigate to the Attribute section and enter a name, and the same will display as the editor who made modifications to the related documentation that will be marked as final.
  • Enter the name as you wish and then tap on the “Compare” button to initiate the comparison process.
  • Once the comparison finishes completely, hit the Open tab to launch the compared file.

Note: When you expand the compared file, you can see various recommendations in the highlighted form that will appear red in color. You will also view the person who made changes into the file located on the right-hand side of the page. In inclusion to this information, you will also be able to view all the modifications with time when they are modified.

  • Every edit will show as a recommendation that you can save it for future references or use. You can accept, approve, or deny any of the provided suggestions of the particular edited portion under the comment section. The comments section will be shown to the right-hand side of your document. For dismissing or accepting a suggestion either by the two ways:
  • Hit the “X” key on your keyboard
  • Tap on the marked box related to a specific edit section

Note: In case you hit the comment section, you can further reply to the particular suggestion and make your opinion in the specific field. All the replies will display to others who view your documents.

  • Once you have performed all the above steps carefully, then the document will be saved automatically under the primary or root folder. For example: “Comparison Of & .” Here the File1 and File2 are the file’s name.
  • For better performance, reboot your system to save all the modifications that you have done to your device.

Compared Revision History

Users can choose two different files and compare them if both the files hold the same type of format and data.

  • First and foremost, navigate to the upper portion of the new blank document page.
  • Then copy both the files of your choice.
  • Now, navigate to the File section.
  • Next, hit the option “See Revision History” to see highlighted modifications.

Note: This action doesn’t work if your data is over pasted on each other.
