Throughout history, games have been used for social media. The internet has made games very popular with a multitude of games now available to everyone. Take the fact that the online gaming sector is growing at a rate four times faster than the overall growth of the Internet, coupled with the growing number online, and it is easy to see why business websites are seeking to get involved.

Social media is a term that was used before its use on the Internet. Allows a gathering of like-minded people to develop a greater awareness and knowledge of your business, hobby and personal interests. Community sites have become incredibly popular. Likewise, social games, essentially games created to be playable within existing community websites, are game-industry revolutionaries similar to those first launched in downloadable casual games. These games that use social connections have multiplied like wildfires on social networking sites.

For example, Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG or simply MMO) is a genre of video games capable of supporting hundreds or even thousands of players at the same time. By their very nature, it is essential that they be played on the Internet and present at least one common playing field. Newer game consoles, including Play Station, Play Station 3, Xbox360, Nintendo DS, and Wii can be used to play MMO games. These multiplayer Social Gamer allow players to interact with other people around the world.

Social media gaming represents a viable business opportunity for game developers and venture capitalists, according to the investment of approximately $ 98 million in social gaming companies in 2006. Not surprisingly, mobile game developers, developers of casual games and web developers move forward with social games. The big players in the social gaming space are Playfish, Zynga, and SGN. All Playfish games have been in the Top 25 on Facebook, while Zynga has dominated the MySpace charts.

Social networks are very low cost. The benefit of this has attracted many entrepreneurs and small business owners, including Internet marketers. These commercial users of social networks constantly seek to increase their customer base and consider this concept to be a very good way to do it. Therefore, they have become for many a customer relationship management (CRM) tool.

One of the great advantages of community games for business people is that it allows a free advertising medium with the use of banners and text ads. Because the World Wide Web is just that it allows global or international connections so that companies not only limit themselves to the local market, but also can reach people worldwide.
