Writing website content is a completely unique concept and one that few webmasters know about. The reason it's difficult is because most of us are tuned to writing paper publications, just as our brains find it much easier to read a paper publication. When we read from a book, newspaper, or magazine, we can digest about 60% of the information we see. Another problem is that Internet readers are much more impatient than their "real life" counterparts, skipping passages and digesting much less information as a result.
Website content techniques
It is these differences that make website content difficult to write for most people. There are several key factors to remember that should help you create content that is easier and faster to read and digest.
· On average, we read 25% slower on a computer monitor than on paper. Combine this with the fact that we want quick access to information, which means that website content should be half the size of offline content at most. If you write a 2,000 word magazine article then you should try to narrow it down to 700-1000 words for the internet.
· We really are lazy online readers. We want all the most important information as soon as we can get it. Some authorities will tell you that this means you have up to ten seconds to get your message across, others will say it is just three seconds. Regardless of which is the most accurate, it means that you have the first two sentences to convince the reader to keep reading.
· Sentences should be shorter. Paragraphs should also be shorter, and each paragraph should contain only one idea.
· The titles and subtitles are absolutely vital. Because we scan text to find the most relevant parts, any format that sticks out is the most likely to be read. In addition to titles, this includes bold, underlined, and even hyperlinked text. blog content copywriting
· Each page of your website is independent of each other. The content of your website should be read as if your visitors had no prior knowledge of any of its other pages. Visitors come from different places, including search engines, and there is absolutely no guarantee that they will reach your home page and work systematically through each of your pages.
· Use all the tricks in the book, but don't overdo it. Bulleted lists, minimal graphics, formatted text, and human-readable quotes are eye-catching. However, if you include too many, your page becomes a disaster and almost impossible to read.
