When a woman is pregnant, her body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Pregnancy test is done to detect the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin in a female’s body. HCG hormone is also called the pregnancy hormone. A female’s body starts producing HCG hormone when the fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus, which usually happens after six days of egg unites with sperm. This is when signs of pregnancy began to appear.
Some of the common symptoms of pregnancy can be:
A female experiencing these symptoms should get herself tested for pregnancy and undergo complete health check-up.
A female’s pregnancy can be confirmed by testing her blood and urine. Through urine and blood test doctor can detect the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin. So, let us talk about the different kinds of pregnancy tests.
What are the different kinds of pregnancy test?
There are many different types of home pregnancy tests available in a drug store. These pregnancy tests contain a chemical stick that shows the presence or absence of HCG hormones when comes in contact with the urine of pregnant woman. Most home pregnancy tests claim that they give 99% accurate results even when taken on the first day after the missing period. The results, in this case, can come as a false negative, which means that test might show that a female is not pregnant even when she is. Hence, it is suggested that a female should wait at least for one week after the periods are missed because levels of HCG hormones rises with time. After a week the HCG levels reach the point where they are easily and accurately detectable using a home pregnancy test.
If the home pregnancy test comes positive, a female has an option to confirm the pregnancy by getting clinical urine test done. Clinical urine test is done in a lab. It involves collecting a sample of urine in a vial and sending it off for testing. Clinical urine tests can as be as accurate as home pregnancy tests. However, they eliminate any chances of error that might cause the test to give inaccurate results.
There are two types of blood test to check the pregnancy:
Qualitative HCG blood test is done to check the presence of HCG in the blood. It just answers the question of whether a female is pregnant or not.
This test is done to check the levels of HCG in blood. It can also help to diagnose any kind of complicacy during pregnancy. The levels of HCG usually increase two-folds every two days during the first few weeks of pregnancy. If they do not increase, it might be an indication of complication. If they are high, it might indicate that female is carrying twins or there may be an abnormal pregnancy.
Blood tests are accurate and can detect the presence of HGC earlier than urine tests.
Even though home pregnancy tests are usually accurate, depending on the time it is done, it is suggested that a female should get a pregnancy blood test and urine test done to be doubly sure. Also See: Home Pregnancy, Human Chorionic, Clinical Urine, Chorionic Gonadotropin, Urine, Pregnancy, Hcg
