Review of Mountain Jam and Arm Chair
Posted by LauraDerbyshire on May 30th, 2020
First, I would like to thank all the people of Mountain Jam for allowing us not to be there, for one reason or another, the ability to experience Mountain Jam from the comfort of our homes through the web. The quality of the transmission was outstanding! Mountain Jam is in Hunter Mountain, among the green mountains of Catskill, in the state of New York. Rolling Stone magazine has rated Mountain Jam as one of the 8 best festivals in the country and the seventh of this year did not disappoint.
The festival includes the two main stages, the East Stage and the West Stage, which are placed side by side, so that the music spins without stopping, without any overlap. An interior stage and the Villa of Consciousness are also presented. The Village Village has an acoustic music stage, an entertainment area for children with interactive music and fun, a beer and wine garden, non-profit exhibitor tables, as well as works of art jamming workshop.
The festival really started on Thursday night, however, for this review we will focus on Saturday and Sunday.
12:30 East Stage - Ryan Montblaeau proved to be a great act early as of 12:30. Ryan, a Massachusetts native and his band brought a new acoustic funk.
1:15 West Stage - Zach Deputy, self-styled "Drum 'n Bass Gospel Ninja Soul Infused Island" left no one guessing. He is the good moment of a band of men. Sitting behind a group of microphones with their black-rimmed glasses, full beard, trucker baseball cap and brown T-shirt, he infused the crowd at the beginning of the afternoon. Zach released a funky Magic Carpet Ride at the James Browns Sex Machine at Parliament Funkadelic's (Tear the Roof off / We Want the Funk) that would make George Clinton proud. The crowd responded with shouts of "one more song". The first bis at 2:00 PM: the beginning of a great day.
2:15 East Stage - Mavis Staples and his 3-piece band (drums, bass, guitar) plus three background singers opened with a beautiful gospel band, all dressed in black, the band soon entered The Weight - Can anyone Do The Weight as she can more? After paying tribute to The Band, he entered his new release, produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. Shortly after we hear Freedom's Highway. Mavis and his band looked and sounded great. I will take you there It was exceptional with an excellent participation of the crowd, still so good 40 years later.
3:30 West Stage - Portugal, Man, a piece of high energy (2 guitar drums, bass, keyboard) from Oregon and Alaska, took him to a higher level with some high energy psychedelic rock and roll. I found them with more energy than psychedelics and I found them fun to listen to and easy to follow for not knowing their music. Also See: Mountain Jam, West Stage, East Stage, His Band, Stage, Band, Mountain
